The Community Leaders Forum – A Home for All Community Leaders

2009 is looking to be a big year, with large challenges and even larger improvements. At SWGEmu we really have come face to face with what our task entails, and realities of a long term project affecting so many people.
What I introduce to you is an initiative which we really hope will unite the Emulator Community and Communities like never before.
Please take the time to read about the Community Leaders Forum below (in FAQ-style):

What is the Community Leaders forum?
It is a private forum here at swgemu.com open at all times for leaders of the different SWGEmu Server Communities. It is a neutral location where the server community leaders can talk with each other in an open forum, and superlatively can discuss with SWGEmu easily.

Who will be included in the Community Leaders Forum?
All of the leaders of the Major SWGEmu Servers. Later this can be narrowed or expanded to include all "Official Servers". It will be up to the servers to decide who they wish to represent them. In reality, I think that the Admins (or developers) of the various servers will be joining us.

Why Now?
I feel that as we draw closer to release, and also as we work on perfecting more systems, communities will want to have a closer eye and a louder voice as to what they want to provide their users. Also after the announcement of sun crusher and our own plans for a more united community and network of official servers, it would be smart to start working on our desired unity earlier rather than later. We are in a rare position in the Open Source world to provide a combined service and community experience as the only realistic provider. We must secure our position with our users before launch.

What are the main goals of the 'Leaders Forum?

To unify the emulator community and its leadership
To provide different communities with a neutral discussion location
To properly inform and easily disseminate information to the whole user base
To allow community leaders' concerns to be addressed securely and outside of the public arena, where opinion and fact are easily confused
To save time
To allow leaders to ensure the SWGEmu Experience they wish to provide is of the highest standard

Why not just let them come on IRC when they have questions?
IRC is inconvenient for many people at many different times. It is often intimidating for leaders to PM Kyle or whoever with their concerns or questions, as busy as we all are. These are also honerable folks who don't like interrupting people for minor things. I think that everyone should be able to speak their mind and be heard and considered; and an open forum is the easiest place for this.

Who from SWGEmu will be using the Community Leaders Forum?
Administrators, Developers and CSRs will all be welcome to contribute here as they see fit. However, there is certainly no obligation nor is it part of anyone's job description. I feel, however, that at least a few people will have an active interest in what goes on here and abroad.

Will the Community Leaders Forum be moderated?
There should be no need for moderation when the individuals involved are all of such calibre. However, if there does come a time or occasion when it is needed, SWGEmu will intervene when asked/needed.

Why at SWGEmu.com and not at another community’s forum?
We believe that SWGEmu is a neutral location, whose goals and activities unite the whole community. Our philosophy is that the SWGEmu Community does not being and end at the bounds of SWGEmu.com and our services, but rather extends out to every Emulator and Server Community which has ever and will ever exist.
We are also interesting in the goings on and mindsets of the various communities, and need to know how we can develop a product for the widest user base.

(Server Admins) Who do I contact to gain access to the Community Leaders Forum?

Each Server Community needs to put together a compact list of leaders for their Community.
You may then either email me (max@swgemu.com) or Private Message me at the SWGEmu Forums.
Please include the SWGEmu Username of each person, the Username of each person at their native community, and what community they are from.

Thank you for your attention. Let me know of any questions.

Have a great day.

Long live the SWGemu!!

I see the administrative and usefulness for this and I totally agree with it, this is a great idea to keep the community in touch with the devs.

As the great warrior poet Ice Cube once said, 'If the day does not require an AK, it is good.'

Today is a good day.
