First of all, Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you're having a good break.

I bring to you good news from a few of our new developers. Since the project went open source, we've had some guys making some great progress. None of this stuff is on the public TC yet, but it should get there soon(TM).

Today, Ritter got surveying working. Here's a short video demonstration.

r3nYjBo9lDY

This was done in conjunction with Kyle, who has been doing a lot of work on the resource manager. The resource manager spawns resources to the database following the spawning rules observed in live. It automatically creates them, removes them when they expire, and replaces them with another. The stats it generates for the resources are based on resource gates from pre CU.

The resource manager is also tied to sampling. Ritter is working on that as well.

PanchJr has been working on buffs. He's got them working and added an @buff command that works for doc buffs. He's also made it so they clear on disconnect.

Voltrox has been working on loot. He has the loot process working. If you missed it, here's a video he posted last week demonstrating it.

0spMOngBbM8

Since then, he has cleaned it up some. Here are a few pics of his progress.

As you can see, he spawned quite a bit of NPCs on Dathomir. Here's an SMC sentry.

Here's looting with the correct system messages.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6862/screenshot0101lq7.jpg

Here's some db admin commands. Note that he has wounds from a bull rancor that diseased him.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/1444/screenshot0105dd8.jpg

Finally, here's some testing opening a corpse.

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/9264/screenshot0099pq7.jpg

That's all for now. I'd like to thank all the new developers for all the hard work they've put in over the past few weeks. You guys are great.

Gratz to Ritter and all his hard work. That was a fast turnaround from getting the packets to getting surveying working. Great job devs!

And by devs, I feel it is safe to say that the open source coders are included in this group.

Thanks guys. Lately I've been playing more than working. Dath + creatures + loot is the closest thing to pre-cu I've experienced in years.

The looting code is not ready for TC yet I think. There is one bug where my weapon poofs after I clone, and until I get /loot working, I can't consider /lootall to be written "the right way".

The database stuff is solid. All item and weapon stats are written to the sql db, and I've pushed 2000+ items through it already. Deletes need to be handled differently, but I don't totally get how Oru was describing to do it, so I'll let somebody else work on that. IMO this is ready for TC but without loot there is no need. Only real caveat right now is that if you loot an item and delete it before you log out, the "deleted" item is not saved in the database.

My loot generator is very primitave. It needs to be scrapped and written "the right way" but it serves its purpose to test the database and acquisition of loot. And it doesn't make sense to rewrite it until we have defined coding relationships between loot items, creature "social groups" and the creatures themselves (which is something I may dig into next week if nobody else does).

I've also been laying the groundwork for DOT weapons and have started moving weapon base stats into LUA scripts. That will also give us the correct damage types and armor piercing on weapons, not to mention the correct base stats. And now that I think about it weapon/armor slicing would be very easy to implement at this point...

There are a lot of easy wins in the core3 source code. The real devs laid an awesome foundation and it is easy to add new features and functionality with only moderate C++ knowledge.

I think the idea is, is that more people have come to understand that the EMU is a marathon not a race, and because of that check back in occasionally, but not daily or every other day as in the past. I know this is the case with quite a few people whom ive talked to from my old server (kettemoor). Ton's of people are still interested in the EMU, they just realized checking back everyday was like watching paint dry, and have found other things to entertain themselves.

about the video, does this mean ranged will be fixed? and will we get uber lewtz? :P i think the TC should be changed into a live server once there is nothing left to be tested and all the people who played since now when this all first started should get some uber lewt!! that would rock.

The Devs have said that there MAY be a SWGEmu server IF there is enough support. Nothing concrete.

What is broken with ranged?

I didn't realize that Oru had asked me to resubmit the loot patch via a different method, so I only resubmitted it last night.

Today I did some work on weapons and gave smuggler a little bit of love.

that DOT weapon is exciting to see. i had no idea DOTs were even under development. :)

voltrox

DOTs were already coded, but were only used for bleeds and fire in certain weapon attacks.

I have DOT weapons working on my TC now. Only thing that needs work is duration (which is still hardcoded somewhere).

Rarely do I post anything on the boards. I've been quietly lurking for the past couple of years, since before SWGEmu had gone "underground" for several months before resurfacing. I've lost track of how many times I had to make an account name, the forums have changed a few times.

But, I most say, I'm very well impressed with how things are moving forward and getting accomplished. Major props to those who stepped up to the challenge and are contributing to this project. Your help is appreciated, not only by the general community, but by the original devs as well (at least, I think they are).

I've seen alot of members bash the devs for the lack of updates or progress. Trust me, I've seen it all in the past couple years. If the world had nothing but the whinners, this project never would have made it to insertion. Those of you that jumped right in and are contributing to the open source aspect of the project should pat yourselves on the back and realise your doing more than the average joe shmoe.

Again, major props to y'all! And to the original Devs, thanks for not giving up!
