actually, making the ships and stuff smaller would in turn make space larger, so it would seem more realistic... I hated going 5km(where I usually ended up when hypering in and stuff) and all the stars start traveling sideways on the screen and it saying you've reached the end of your sublight engine's limitations...

But you were traveling at like 500,000 km/h, so 5,000 km was nothing.

The problem with scaling everything down is that as it might be accurate, you would lose part of the ship detail. If everything is almost exactly 60% off then they are scaled to proportions equal to themselves. They may be technically larger than they are supposed to be... but its like if you doubled the size of earth and everything on it... no one would notice.
However, in computer graphics land, if you double the size of something you can get twice the resolution out of it and make it look better. That is probably what they did to get the detail in. |

that may be true, well technically it is very true, but considering the level of detail on ships in general is significantly less than the level of detail than say, on an R2 unit or such things, close up to a station or other vehicle, or even just looking out the ****pit of a YT-1300 to the side and you will see that the Detail isnt designed for close inspection. so reducing it by 40% won't make too much of a difference, if anything it might make the detail (which gets blurry on close inspection) a bit sharper. granted this may be best for individual servers to decide on, I just figured It might be a good idea to give you guys a heads up first.
I found all this out when I was measuring stuff to check if in game Capital ships ranging from Nebulon B to Victory Class Star Destroyers actually WERE phsyically plausable as far as moving around in the space zones. and so far I am getting some very promising results. Nice that you got that sorted Good going!
Personally I think the JTL stuff is just extras that many arent too bothered about and the pre-CU non-JTL stuff is the main stuff that people are after. |
