SOE is for profit..this is not. NFP is very different from profit. SOE was bent to the desires of Lucas..here not so much. You have a right to cry paying 15 a month x 4 accounts. Here..not so much.;)

Whats your f'ing point wise guy? None of that BS means they are making the right choice.

This has nothing to do with profit. It has to do with the level of professionalism we're seeing.

I have every right to voice my opinion and i'll continue to do so as long as this is an open forum.

With more than one hundred pages of active discussion on this issue between the two threads makes it abundantly clear that community involvement was high and that an overwhelming majority of the votes came from distinct individuals. You not only have the burden of proving these accusations of fraudulence, but you also have to explain why vote padding might have occurred unequally.

The "yes" vote was at 75% when a sudden flood of almost constant no votes for hours began.

The sudden no vote happened in a time span of hours when an irregular number of new accounts where created.

The people who have the most to lose, dupers, have the most to gain if the "no" vote wins.

Dupers already by their very nature are in the habit of using methods against the rules to achieve something they want.

As some testers pointed out the fact that there happened to be an extremely high statistical trend in no votes and an unusually high number of new accounts, Moderator Staff ,Insultingly, declared that that was a physical impossibility.

Then fueling an army of trolls, the staff member led the forums to publicly mock those that cited basic evidence to a relevant problem.

Not long after, other staff members deleted posts made by those citing such evidence. However, the off-topic posts, mocking those that had only wished to maintain the votes credibility remained on the thread.

Hours later the thread is locked, and later the decision made to negate the poll, based on community solidarity and credibility.

Now as i said before, as raging as I am at everything thats happening, the only thing i blame staff for is simply not being honest with the community, and not letting us know sooner that the problems that let to consideration of a wipe were not addressed.

Pretending a problem doesn't exist simply because You cannot fix it does more damage. And sometimes the most responsible thing anyone can do is ask for help.

There are a large number of qualified persons on the TC who enjoy this project so much that they would have volunteered to work for the staff to police these problems. All staff had to do was ask.

And even as angry or kneejerk as the community seems at this point, I bet if you asked, You would get the help from people with the time and knowhow to act while allowing the current team to worry about the OR.

For those of you that think the final outcome was 66% majority to wipe are seriously confused. The Devs were GOING to leave the poll open for 2 weeks, so the vote was NEVER final. It could have went either way.
They saw the polls were getting out of hand, and were being manipulated by people from both sides of the argument. As well as tearing the community apart.

eh?

till it got deleted I saw postings by staff along the lines that it wasn't being manipulated either way, and wrote it off as conspiracy theorist jargon

On a side note, there is a reason that thread got deleted...go figure as to why.

John Smedley would be proud !

I think the Devs should shut TC down for a month. I think too many people are taking this project for granted at this time. Teach them a valuable lesson, let their cries fall on deaf ears for a month while you guys take a break. Seriously. I want to play as much as anyone, but this is just ridiculous.

You guys cried for a wipe due to the economy of a Test Center. The economy of a Test Center! Wow, that's brilliant.

I really don't care if they wipe it or not. At this point I hope they do just to shut you all up. But I hope they shut it down for a month first, just to prove a point. That it is not your right to determine what goes on with their project.

They asked for your feedback, you acted like little brats. Much like is happening now. No wonder they don't want to listen to you, who could blame them?

What a surprise. majority says wipe so it's 100% fraud for just the side in favor of the wipe, despite the obviousness of people making new accounts saying not to wipe.

I won't be surprised when these same tards start *****ing about wanting to transfer their characters over to the real deal when the time comes.

The first part is not in dispute, but you have no proof as to how many votes came from distinct individuals. You can assume they are, but that doesn't necessarily make it so.

I pretty much see every point I was thinking having been made here. But I just recently came from a game where the single dev seemed to be in his own world, ignoring suggestions and adding stuff no one wanted.

I know the forums might not be accurate, but I personally believe that without all this alt-forum account stuff that the majority of people would've voted for a reset...

This is a test server right?

Cayden Maverick
04-27-2010, 08:42 PM
It seems some people failed to realize when they downloaded and joined the test server that it was never intended to stay up for any real length of time, and that what they do on the server could all be erased in a wipe that the developers need to make in order to further the production of this server.

By not wiping, they're forcing to prolong the final development of Suncrusher and releasing the source for other private servers to duplicate Suncrusher and make their own galaxy.

Those of you that are whining and crying about a wipe need to realize that this server isn't about you, but about the whole of the project. What you do on it is your business, but its secondary when it comes to the desires and needs of this development team.

I personally don't understand why they polled the wipe, and didn't just post an item saying "At this time, we are wiping the server." An apology isn't even necessary since anyone who joined the server should have read that Nova is a test server and wipes WILL happen. God forbid any of you encounter events where things don't go according to your plan, and inconvenience you.

By not wiping, they're forcing to prolong the final development of Suncrusher and releasing the source for other private servers to duplicate Suncrusher and make their own galaxy.

You have that backwards. If they needed to wipe the server to further the project, they'd do so without asking. This was all about people crying about the economy, nothing more. It actually would have taken a couple days to do the wipe. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but still exactly opposite of what you are claiming.

1st off all i have not read all of the post's ill get back to you on that, but WTF R U GUYS PLAYING @ , I how nasty is that stunt you guys just pulled off.

another time when 600 voices are louder than 2000.

To whom do you talk to and why in such disrespectable manner?
You clearly stated that you don't read all of the posts, so why don't just read, think and then talk instead doing reverse?
Acting like that might hurts your reputation, which may doesn't bother you. But it also can hurt the reputation of the team which logo bears your sig, which should bother you.
Someone could argue there are more of your kind over there.

The credit dupers and loljedi threw an Anakin fit and the second poll ended with many people creating multiple accounts to skew the poll before it was closed apprently cheered on by an actual developer using system messages ingame last night.

Thats just an assertion without substance. Any proof on this like logs etc. that ONLY No-Votes were cheated would help you there, but this way it's just poor flaming. Seems to me some of the "Community" members didn't get what he insisted for and tries to have his revenge.

Yeah, thanks for appologizing cRush. That's very admirable especially since, in my opinion, an appology from the dev team is completely not needed. An apopology from some of the player community...now that's another thing.

04-27-2010, 09:25 PM
Okay first of all.. I read a bunch of the posts through this thread and am ashamed at a large majority of people I have to share the game space with. Taking to the Devs like they own you something, not to mention how everyone seems to have turned EMO all of a sudden...

First of all not all people who voted no to the wipe are credit dupers or pure evil. I am broke in game and voted no. Personally a couple of tiny changes wasn't worth losing the month or so I've been running around doing stuff. The justification of it's a TC didn't cut it either since hey what are we really going to be testing? As said on there it wasn't for any kind of testing purposes other that possibly finding other ways people would cheat.

Second of all.. Wonder if maybe the poll threads hadn't turned into such a joke would it have turned out better? People not voting more than once, or posting pictures of blue frogs every 2 seconds making them larger each time. Or how about just in general fighting with each other over the dumbest things. I gave up reading them because most of the stuff I had to go through was garbage to get to things that were even relevant to the poll.

Lastly.. Stop being little babies, nobody owes you anything, stop whining AND GROW A PAIR! Thanks. If you can't go pay to play NGE or something... Personally for myself the only downside is I had no reason to play until this was decided sine whatever I worked for could possibly be for nothing. But if you were smart you took things you needed to do and got them done (such as a reformat).

Dev 1(whomever it was that did the first poll): Damn bro....that was alot of crap going on in the poll thread. Did i f it up?
Dev 2(again, whomever): Nah dude, you just weren't specific enough. You see a poll should spell it all out, set some realistically achievable goals by either side and let the people know how we will do it.
Dev 1 : Gotcha!
-----Later that day------
Dev 2: Wow bud! poll looks amazing! spelled it all out, put all the good stuff that people need to know....and LOOK! you put up realistic goals for both sides of the argument! No WAY there's gonna be controversy!
Dev 1 :Thanks bro...i'm pro!
-----Later that day-----
Dev 3 : WTF were you 2 idiots thinking! now there's more controversy than ever!
Dev 4 : Think they'll be pissed if we just scrap the poll and say some cool ****?
Dev 1 : nah
Dev 2 : Nope...people here are clear thinkers.
Dev 3 : hmm....not so sure it'll go over as well as you think. But try it anyway.
Dev 1 : Noone will be pissed, they love us.

You guys need someone with some experience in running online communities to get involved. Since you've rocked the boat with that little wipe tease, than prematurely pulled out, are you going to do anything else to attempt to stabilize the economy and re-introduce item balance? I mean, with things the far outside of the box going on, at a minimum you are missing out on a lot of testing feedback because some parts of the game do not get touched because they are virtually gated by imbalance.

How about:

Delete all of the accounts that obviously duped credits, and have toons with 999,999,999 credits
Review any logs associated with those toons, and delete paths of massive credit transfer
Remove any and all looted weapons that are outside of the possibility of the standard loot table
Delete all weapons that are obviously mutli-sliced, due to their damage range being outside of the possibility of the loot table
Delete the accounts of people who openly state they are violating the TOS in spatial, tells, and IRC by talking about: Selling items/credits, Exploiting, Sharing accounts, Duping.

I can't believe that you actually went though with posting that poll, included the phrase "We won't pander to the QQ'ers, they ruined SWG in the first place" and yet you go and do exactly that. Seriously. I go back to my initial statement, you guys need to make an attempt to find someone who has experience running an online community. And you need to get them involved, before you implode your own corner of the internet by jerking people around like this.

Amen.

Seriously, you guys can develop a game, you are bringing us (a version of) Pre-CU/NGE SWG, you do it for free (arguably) and I'm thankful and admire your skill in that department. But holy **** you guys have a wicked case of foot-in-mouth disease. What is this, the third controversy in recent memory? I really think we just got a glimpse of the future of SWGemu. Unless something is done RIGHT now, than this emulator is doomed. If a decision to wipe can cause the dev team to flip flop back and forth like this, what is going to happen when real decisions have to be made?

If this team lacks the back bone not to be swayed by a vocal minority, than how is it going to survive this thing out to the end?

Is that not what killed SWG?

No, what we got is just a glimpse on the so called "community". And unless many people just get their mind right, it's the community which has just doomed itself!

You all may not get facts some here straight:
THEY DON'T REALLY NEED ANYONE OF US! BUT WE ARE NEED THEM AND THEIR EXPERIENCE TO GET WHAT WE LIKE TO GET!

They could do it just behind closed doors like the ANH-Team, with just some handpicked testers. They let Nova open for everyone to play on while working on their improvements. They don't have to. They do for the communities sake. The "community" thanks them cheating on a community decision poll. And got flamed by many impatient childish morons when they pull the plug out of it when it went off the trail. GREAT!

I wish I could say I have never seen so much thankless folks, but unfortunately I have. It seems either being part of human nature or is just the common behaviour of our modern society.

I must say I just admire the Devs composure. If I were in charge here, most of this praised community would find him- or herself in front of a closed door, donations reverted, and the team would finish it's work with internal testers only. Lucky you that I'm not.
Oh well, and lucky me.

Speaking of narrow minded selfishness.

I was so relieved when blue frogs were taken off the test server. Putting them back in would ruin the game for me. I know they will most likely be back in for quite some time when the OR hits, but putting them in now would be a real downer for me, and yes I know it was gonna be two proffs and just for two weeks. It still would have greatly reduced my enjoyment of the game.

I believe the reasoning behind the idea was to clean the server of duped items and thus restoring a true economy. The problem is that the same duping method would still be three and thus everything would just go back to how they are right now. I dont know how this duping works but why cant whatever is involved just be removed? We lose a game feature but gain an economy.

Some people *really* need to get more sleep, or more fresh air or both...

Dude I hope you have the balls to apologize for such accusations on the devs when you realize your mistake...

Have you not seen the whole site go down during a deadlock and forum posts move from one thread to another ?

Have you never seen the message "database error" in your browser while only IRC was working ?

You think those were the evil devs plotting against you these times ?

No ?

So why would you think it was the case there ? Why such accusations towards the people bringing us this game during their free time ???

I really hope you realize your mistake and have the balls to apologize later...

You couldn't be more wrong.... Do you think I wanted to put 16 hours into this Poll in two days only to have it removed? I already put over 30 hours a week into this project and some ignorant jerk like you comes in here like you own the place making outlandish false assumptions. I already said we stuffed up and we are sorry, what else do you want? If your out for blood it isn't going to happen. Take your attitude and hit the road.

Please do not go the route of name calling and insults to the community. Use your moderator privileges and edit/delete offending posts and posters. This only fuels the drama further.

Except that all facts point to the fraud votes coming in from the no side, and even if not, 66% said yes, which is well past the majority even allowing for a 15% pad. If there was a judgement call to be made, all logic points to erring for wipe rather than no-wipe. This is what the controversy is all about.

I personally appreciate the time and effort all the staff have put into project and community.

If I was to leave this game it would not be because of the possibly of a wipe, the delay in making a decision or even the decision not to use the poll - it was because of the absent respect everyone has shown on the forums to other community members and staff.

Especially the people comparing the SWGEmu Staff to SOE, the SWGEmu staff members were the ones who were probably so annoyed they decided to do the impossible and bring back SWG as we all knew and loved, you guys just made some characters and played a game, the staff probably spent numerous days on code consisting of less lines than this post.

if you devs werent gonna take the majority voice with some seriousness you fail
-1 respect
just another reason why this project is even more seeming to be out of reach
what i mean is,..if huge programming teams for SoE couldnt do it right, or had the skills to do it and failed. its hard to have faith in a group of weekend warriors following the same path of not listening to their player base.

04-27-2010, 10:44 PM
This is how I see it:

Devs were brainstorming on how to fix some of the server issues. Wipe was tossed around as an idea, but since it isn't a pressing concern on a "dead code" server it was decided that the community would be allowed to decide. "We are impartial to a wipe" "We will not pander to the QQers."

Poll was launched. Community was passionate one way or the other. People called into question the integrity of the poll due to "lack of information" and "possible fraud".

Poll was revised and relaunched. "66% majority needed" well beyond a standard majority. Community was more informed, but still certain questions were raised such as harvesters and banks. Integrity of poll called into question again, this time due to lack of key points "harvesters and banks" and even more prevalent "voter fraud".

In my view, at this point, the staff saw that they had made a mistake, they didn't take every variable into account, like the possible fraud and the few items they (in my opinion, accidentally) omitted. I believe these were honest mistakes (just as cRush stated) they had already reset the poll once so to do so again would be ridiculous.

There are allegations of votes being removed and the only way to do this in vBulletin requires a moderator to my knowledge. Looking at the evidence of the screenshots, that seems to be a possibility, its also possible that it was simply a database error, I have no idea, I'm not versed enough to comment.

Where I feel the whole affair went south is when, after two separate polls had the majority in favor of a wipe the staff decided to just say nevermind. I understand some of the reasons, but all this ended up doing was causing a storm of controversy. I know there would be controversy either way, but the staff continues to put their collective feet in their mouths instead of sticking to their own rules. Some of the other staff went so far as to simply post "Cry" in another thread and locked it.

I again want to reiterate that this staff has profound skill in creating a pre-CU/NGE experience for us, but in my view, they are desperate for a competent and respectful community staff leader/staff members. I pray that when/if Suncrusher and eventually 1.0 is released that many of these staff members don't have a say in how the server is run internally.

I for one am wicked disappointed with this entire thing. They get everyone excited about the wipe, and then, when the majority of the players vote to go through with the wipe (most likely because it would have fixed the most prominent problems, right?) they cancel it.
They should have gone through with it. Even with the few babies. Did they not see the Blue Frogs for two weeks? If everyone was responsible enough they could choose the skill boxes they had before the wipe and get on with the game.
Please, take all the messages from the players here into consideration, and see what the majority is really asking for.

I don't want a wipe. But I did vote to wipe with the frogs so the devs could test some things. It is a test server. It is not fun to start over. But it is for testing. I love playing and having fun. But I can give up what I have done in the interest of having the test server be a TEST server.

I don't care what or how much has been duped. It is all going to be wiped. It doesn't matter what I create, harvest, sell, buy, grind, or loot. It is all going to be wiped. I do care about implementing and testing changes that will further the development process so we don't have to deal with duping and some other exploits AFTER the game goes live.

Ultimately it may not matter if we have a wipe or not at this point. But people could at least have had the respect to accept that if two thirds of this community voted to go ahead with a wipe now, it was going to be the decision of the community to put testing before our personal interest in gaming. And if you were going to quit over this, you will be quitting anyways when the DB wipes return after implementing the OR. DB wipes suck. But they are necessary for advancement of the game until the day it goes live. And I probably won't play as often myself when the wipes start happening regularly again. But there are other people who will. And I'm glad they do. I want my game back.

The poll itself was extremely biased. There were 3 options for Yes and only two for No. In addition, the wording left much to be desired. Fair would have been

No - won't play till OR
No - but I'll still play
INDIFFERENT - I don't care either way
Yes - without frogs
Yes - with frogs

This is only in addition to the numerous citings of developers trying to turn the tides of the poll. Amazingly, with 3 No answers and only 2 Yes answers (60 to 40), people STILL chose pretty overwhelmingly Yes. And let us not forget that the poll was 75% 12 hrs after being posted.

i totally agree its one thing to say this blows or throw alittle fun into a bad situation its another to just flat out insult or demonise people just cause they screw up.

You know, maybe you guys should not try to alienate the guys coding the game you want who are trying to make sure we don't do something as drastic as wiping the server based on information we can't verify is completely accurate.

WTH man, I joined just the other day and this? That wasn't an insult to any of you. If you had watched the movies, when Qui-gon does the droid mindtrick thing, they quit looking for the droids... As in, they need to quit looking for you...!?!?

I'm just a GM who happens to know exactly what these comments are doing to the otherwise very dedicated devs.

It comes with the territory. Perhaps the Devs in question need to take a break for awhile and not mess with anything until they've either recharged their batteries OR decided that the payoff isn't worth the headache.

Well, I have no part in the debate, not even going to look around for who is saying what. All I have to say really is that the devs are doing a good job with this all. Development is a big task, tons of things happen that makes one head spin, it's work. So if they want to wipe or not wipe for whatever reason, it's really up to them. There really wasn't that big a difference in the poll anyway, it's not like 80% of forum lurkers are wanting a wipe. So, imo, it's their call :)

You know, maybe you guys should not try to alienate the guys coding the game you want who are trying to make sure we don't do something as drastic as wiping the server based on information we can't verify is completely accurate.

The whole problem is that the community has been ignored and jerked around. The devs can't be alienated from or by any group that they don't pay any attention to in the first place.

On the flip-side of the coin: yes, a lot of people have been real a-holes--but this is on ALL sides of this entire dramafest. Devs, staff, AND players... Especially players; mainly due to the massive amount of posts/chat coming from the players, with very little coming from the others.

The major problem: the percentage of negativity when it comes to players vs. the percentage of negativity from everyone else. A much higher percentage of negativity IS coming from the devs/staff.

These last few days have shown that things haven't changed in the last few years. I leave that statement as-is. There are still problems all the way around.

Yes, devs spend a hell of a lot of time coding this project. The staff spends a hell of a lot of time administrating the site, server, irc, etc. What both of you groups fail to recognize, at least publicly: the players spend a hell of a lot MORE time playing through the code and finding any bugs. Yes, playing a game and doing coding or site administration are different ballparks, but their still time taken away from our families, friends, and pets. Time IS money.

I do appreciate what the devs are doing here, despite the supposed in-fighting and backbiting they have to deal with. No, they don't HAVE to do this. Ditto for the staff. This entire community needs to stop with all the disrespectful comments and out-and-out barbarism when dealing with one another.

Players: if you don't like what's going on here, you don't have to stay here, read the forums, donate, play the TC, or anything. If you really wish to show your disapproval, don't donate, don't post, and don't play here. The staff/devs don't have to take and BS from you. You don't have to be respectful, but you won't be disrespectful, at least not for very long. @ban does work here.

Staff/Devs: keep doing your thing, but be respectful. Just being in a position of power and/or authority does not grant you the right of respect. Respect is something earned, period. Just as stated above, just because you don't have the right of respect doesn't mean that you should be treated disrespectfully, either. At the absolute worst, y'all should be treated in a courteously-neutral manner. As you know @ban does work here. Exercise it if rules are not followed, hackers/exploiters are caught, or you're disrespected.

After some time to calm down and refocus on what is important, the fact we can all play SWG as it was meant to be enjoyed, I would like to say kudos to the devs for any communication at all.
I think when things like this happens it reminds us of what we have all been through and not just with SOE. Most of the time the community is not thought of and when something scares us we react poorly.
I feel lucky to have found this game again and am thoroughly enjoying it. If I wasnt I wouldnt be here.
Maybe in future you should have a poll about whether to have a poll or not... hrm.. seems silly doesnt it.
Keep at it guys. We're here because of your dedication. Sometimes we forget that.

Well, the one thing that this has made abundantly clear to me is that the majority of the community surrounding this game is simply not one that I can continue to test and enjoy the game with. It's too divided and hostile. Certainly I took a side in the wipe debate, but I tried to state my thoughts clearly, and was open to consider the arguments of others. Most of the hundreds of pages of posts I read were just bitter hostility, though I appreciate those which rose above that.

Long story short, this will be ignored or I'll get a "QQ more, noob" or something, which is fine. How I feel about the community isn't the reason I made this post...

I simply ask that this account and its associated information be deleted as I have uninstalled the emulator and SWG and don't intend to return at any point in the near future. I like to tie up loose ends like that, and it would be much appreciated.

And lastly, I would like to thank the developers of this project. I installed it out of curiosity to see how the project was coming along, and to see if there was anything I could do to help, and spent a couple weeks playing with it. What you've accomplished is genuinely impressive, and allowed me to relive those memories of 2004 and the only MMORPG I ever played quite convincingly, lantern birds and all. Damn elusive Lantern Birds of memory. Never could remember what they looked like.

I wish you success with completing this project, as I'm sure that in a finished state with a broader community it would be a very enjoyable experience indeed.

I'll make one more post I suppose.

My problem isn't with the diversity of the community. Diversity in itself is a wonderful thing.

Wipe, don't wipe, blue frogs, no blue frogs. All of these had merit. The reason I'm opting to leave this project behind me for the time being is because very few members of the community were in my opinion, able to express and debate their views on the merits of any of these options. It was all pages and pages of attacks and accusations.

Diversity is a wonderful thing because it allows different view points for discussion. If there's no discussion diversity loses so much of its value.

True, it is not always the best idea to turn and leave at the onset of trouble. Nor would I in every situation. For SWGemu though, I feel that that's the best choice for me. It's a game, if it's not fun for me then why stay?

And lastly, again I wish the developers and indeed the users success and fun with this project.

Silly humans and your fanatical overreactions (not applicable to all). Rather than complaining, chastising, lecturing (guilty...), and behaving like a bunch of squabbling politicians who found a reason to attack someones reputation, get back in the game and see if there are still undiscovered exploits so that way they can be identified and tested with the OR code, that way history wont have to repeat itself.

Honestly, why do you guys even have a public relations wing at this point. It's obvious that no matter what decision you guys make the community will be outraged at you, due to past relations blunders. Setting up something like this in concept, Staff should have known, with all the past QQ from this community, that we could not handle this decision.
i'm tired of hearing from staff "you guys should not bite the hand that feeds". After years and years of the same reaction from the same people, how do you guys expect any different reaction than the one you get every time you do something. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, you guys might be clinically insane at this point.

Hi guys,

I normaly don't tell my views in discussions like that but I have 2 massive problems with the actual situation:

1.)

You think he/she is wrong? Ok no problem! You want to tell us that it's not your fault how unhappy the people are and that you have put in a lot of work? Understood and much appreciated! BUT never ever should someone of the community lead(GM, Community Managers, Devs) ever call community members like this. Why? Because if someone from the devs speak like this everyone else will shortly talk like this...

2.)

I have no problem with the decision of the devs to don't do a wipe even if I voted for a wipe.
BUT you state SWGEmu is a non-profit, open source community project.
Now my problem is if you do a poll (which you don't need to) you HAD TO do whatever the poll result is. Just because of the morale of the community as this community think they are a big part of the project. If you need to do the opposite of the poll result just "modify" the poll result. It will not have that much impact on the community as the actual solution...

BTW for all that think the devs do it in their free time and we have no rights do critism just think about what will happen to all the hard work if we always say "Yes, Yes,..." - everytime the community will loose people until no people are there anymore. The devs worked hard but no one left to thank them or honor their work.

After that said I still have trust into this project and I am sure the devs will learn a lot from these events.

I am confused.

the developers control the code on the forums
the developers control the code in the game.

the developers posted a vote and set the rules for the vote and what would happen based on the vote.

Yet the vote was disregarded partly because of new accounts?
if you control the forums cant you control how and who places the votes?
Set limits of account age? SOMETHING?

I dont care which way the vote went.
I am pissed because I was misled by the people I TRUST to bring this game to its fullest potential.

Now that this vote and bull**** has happened...I dont trust a word the devs say.

I doubt the OR is actually gonna happen at this point.

Are they just milking donation money and using it for something else then what they say it is being used for?

I cant trust them anymore and will NEVER donate money to this project until it is finished.

That really is a sad reason to wipe. I'm a newbie so please wipe. Going over many comments in the poll, a majority that voted yes with many ridiculous variations of demands on a wipe (credits, items, accounts etc..) simply wanted it to "even the playing field", it's clear.

That is no reason to wipe the database, it's just being mean to the existing community that is waiting for the OR and that wipe, there really is no need for bug reporting at this time. And yes before I get flamed, I know some vets do want a wipe, I do respect their opinions. Yet many that have been here for years probably would not even come back after such a pre-or wipe for a time since we know it will get wiped again, and we are hoping the wipe for the OR is soon.

If they did wipe it, it would only mean that the OR release is no time soon, so why spend the time starting over to "even the playing field" (or variation of that comment), we have family and friends, a life, and investing in a beta stage (a lame duck stage actually) to accommodate the newer players is pretty silly; if you really give it some thought.

Come on people, restore civility, go with the flow, take a chill pill, a wipe will be around soon enough, and at a point we will all agree it's really needed (e.g for the OR). If you are new, just tough it out, we pretty much all have here at one time or another.

The devs and us have a symbiotic relationship here, folks.

Notice how the minute a dev posts in this thread, the hate goes down? It’s easy to attack the wizard behind the curtain, a lot harder when he actually says something back.

That doesn’t mean the devs weren’t wrong, just that it takes a public face and accountability to calm people down. That’s what PR is. A public face.

In the grand scale of the Emu, wiping the TC isn’t really that big of a deal. But it does show us how the relationship between the devs and community works.

People will always be pissed when their voice isn’t heard. I voted for a wipe. I stand by that choice.

The Emu has never been known for great community relations; maybe this will create a spark that will change that.

I hope it does.

-Tay

P.S. For what it’s worth:

Devs, for all your hard work, volunteering, and for donning the flame suits, thank you.

And to the community, we are a salty bunch ready to call bull**** at the drop of a hat. If we weren’t this passionate about this damn game it would have dead a long time ago. For that, thank you.

I will say that it makes me chuckle a little seeing this page, and seeing the number of people who originally were saying things like "Wipe it, the devs obviously want to" and etc... are complaining now and the number of people talking about quitting now that they have said no wipe are saddening. Last time I looked the vote poll wasn't "Yes, and give me blue frogs or I QUIT!".

I'm not a forum mod, none of us are but the mods. If they put up the vote with the intention of it being a fair vote and creating a good discussion, then saw that it was in any way becoming one that was questionable (BOTH the YES and NO sides made accusations of tampering, proxy clicking, etc..), and saw the level of division it was creating in the community, I can't blame them for taking it down.

What they did was in NO way the same as what SOE did or does. SOE didn't run a serious poll that was aimed at letting the players dictate what would happen. SOE didn't consult with players before implementing changes, or tossing out the CU or NGE. All they did was say "this is what's gonna happen, kkthnxbye".

Players should be grateful the developers even considered putting up a poll to let players decide, and should also realize that a forum based poll is a great way to express thoughts and opinions, but not something that should be used to determine the course of the game.

The devs tried it, and it turned into a complete mess. I for one am grateful they tried, but believe the COMMUNITY could've AS A WHOLE handled it a lot better than they did. A lot of people made assumptions of a wipe, and others that there'd be no wipe, and as a result many players did things IN GAME that were geared toward a wipe. This phenomenon is exactly why the developers did the RIGHT thing is saying "ok this is a cluster-bleep, let's end it".

I will remind all of those who screamed "It's a TC, it should be wiped" and "If the Devs want to wipe, then wipe!" that yes, it IS a TC, it IS the Devs call, and if they look at what's happening when they experiment with letting the COMMUNITY become more involved in the decision making process and that spirals out of control... yeah I can't blame them for calling it.

I take this as a learning experience for everyone...including the developers...and now they know that it's a completely BAD idea to try to let "the Community" try to decide the course of the server. So, to that end, I say let's get back to playing, maybe the devs can patch in some of the dupe fixes, and let's move one like they hadn't brought the poll in the first place.

After all, HAD they NEVER put the polls up, we'd ALL be doing the exact same thing today as we were before the polls were up...Grinding away, making creds, talking, chatting, beating each other up in duels, all the while waiting for the OR.

Perhaps you folks should read more carefully. Since part of the Community tried to manipulate the voting by creating new accounts. The only thing that was possible was to withdraw the poll and to stay on the path as planned.
It the inet so there are a lot of ways to cheat and manipulate things, so from a good community, i would expect people not to make an personal advantage of bugs and errors like credit and item Duping, if there would be not so much egoism it would be much nicer but there is defenitly no way to change mankind.

So take it as it is don´t blame them, blame the a**holes that cannot stay with certain standards and who go for every method to get their will.

Thx to the team for for taking a hard decision , but i can understand them pretty well.
And thx for giving us a great game back.

I just dont see how you can compare this with $OE. Im not trying to flame anyone. What happened here isnt even close to what $OE did.

$OE took a game we paid for, loved and scraped it for the NGE! Completely changing the game. I really dont think a wipe or no wipe really changes the game much and on top of that we dont have to pay to play!

What happened here was disappointing but crap happens.People make mistakes. Its what we do. Believe it or not,no one is perfect. Not even the EMU Team.

Remember the hate we had,(I still have),for $OE??
Can you honestly tell me you have the same hate for the EMU Team over this?? I would have to hate them that much to be able to compare the two!

But hey, thats me! Im not even a little mad over this mess,(I voted for the wipe),.It was just a mistake, it isnt the first and it sure as hell wont be the last.

Right now Im just thankful I can play/test pre-cu and have confidence the Team will do whats best for this server. I respect their decisions whether I think it to be right or wrong.

Thankx,

Ya cant tell me everyone involved on the "swg team" who had a say in all of this, read the funny business that went on with the poll in its last minutes before being locked and removed.

I'm at a big 'whatever' when it comes to this game, ya its fun, but when the day ends..... its the devs puppy to kick, and no one elses.

Anyone who compare the swgemu team to soe are seriously misguided, what happened here was even on there test center they actually gave us a choice on the future of this server and unfortunately a minority of this community took that choice away from us by exploiting the poll with more votes than they were entitled to.
we will never know the true feelings of the community on this matter because of it and it must of really put a limitation on the future community involvement in development choices.
I hope that the people flaming the devs because of a biased poll realise that there was no result down to those few that multi voted and therefore the correct decision was taken.

I continue to thank all the developers and community staff for there continued efforts on this project

Well, on the behalf of myself I'd like to apologize to the swgemu staff for those that are being frankly offensive and damaging to this community's goal. For the sake of making this a better place, please everyone chill out and move on. Whether you think you are owed one or not, the staff has already apologized and tried to make things better for all sides in this issue.

Lets please move forward from this with personal goals of making this community a better place and focus on having fun while trying to improve the emu itself as a whole.

God after seeing all the **** in this thread I'm making a motion. If the devs see this comment, take note to not listen to anybody except yourselves. Don't let what anybody else says sway your opinion. If someone doesn't like what you, the ultimate dealbreakers, are doing, then they can gtfo. This is not a for profit project so figures don't need to be worried about. Make an agenda, post the agenda, and stick with it. Screw everyone else.

I was here for the polls. I voted in both of them. However, Whether there was a poll or not, or whether or not the actions of the devs were based on the results of the poll, is irrelevant. Recognizing the fact that this is a free game no one here has a right to complain to any of the Emu staff about the outcome of either of these polls or anything else regarding the development and functionality of the game. All of us are here by the good graces of the people working hard to make this endeavor happen. By all means offer advice, but dont whine untill your blue in the face because you dont get your way.

Right, the community. Unfortunately it was the community that screwed this one up. Jacking with the votes, flaming the hell out of each other. Acting like spoiled brats, from the time the first poll went up...right up until now.

The community, as you so thoughtfully put it, should be worried about the future of the game as a whole. Not little bits and pieces of a test center that are insignificant in the long run.

04-28-2010, 03:50 AM
I feel like an a$$ for making a comparison of this project to SOE, I really do. I appreciate what has been done on development, and with efforts made to strengthen the community. I know I've made mistakes before, big mistakes, and I probably will again (though I hope not big ones).

I can't say I forgive the staff responsible for what took place the past few days, but I can understand what it means to make mistakes. I can look past the mistakes if they aren't very severe and come at a low frequency.

People seem to complain about politicians who 'do nothing', but the thing about doing nothing is, you don't screw something up worse than it is. Planning and foresight are needed when taking action (such as a vote or writing policy); if something major gets overlooked, then someone might as well have dropped a bowling ball through a faulty glass bottom boat, because that just might sink in the right conditions... no matter the precautions taken to keep it afloat.

I'm still angry about what happened. I'm not angry about the dupes, cheats, script kiddies, etc... I'm not angry about the development here (programmers here are top notch). I'm not even angry that things were promised and not delivered (basically being lied to). I'm angry at my reaction, and I'm angry I didn't do more to help in the process instead of degrading the process. The entire process failed due to this... a shared blame by 90% of us who contributed opinions.

I posted about how weak the poll was implemented (regards to legitimacy of voters) and how it could be salvaged by implementing forum tools to keep it from degrading. I reported posts that were spreading false information (where no action was taken to clear up bad information). But I did these things in a sea of arguments and in a manner and tone that were bound to be ignored. I am at fault, and I'm angry about that fact alone.

I apologize for my misdirected anger and condescending demeanor during this ordeal. I don't ask to be forgiven, but I hope it can be understood, as I can understand the other side as well.

I hope in the future that we can all learn from what took place and not repeat the same mistakes.

Don't get me wrong, I also have the deepest appreciation, just like everyone else, for what the devs are doing in general. If they had decided on a wipe w/o asking then no one would have any say in the matter. This became OUR decision the second the devs posted the poll.

This is a matter of "If you do not donate, expect the server to go away without notice."

But this wipe was for us, so they asked us. If you remove a president from his/ her office its out of necessity, if you hold an election it becomes a choice for the people. Whole point of that post is that cheaters now rule TC...inflating the market to absurb levels and this, by looks of it, is perfectly acceptable. Ok guys here what will happen after the wipe:
1-The harvesters are removed so will have to sample the resources with your hands.
2-Due to the harvester's absence the mineral will be in small stock and short supply, so you will not find anyone selling them for 10cpu or like i see now.
3-The speeders drink the resources like water so no one will make it with sweet heart.
4-You wont buy speeders from the bazaar for 20k ever again, the cheapest one with be more than 50k (i prefer to sell resources in raw rather than selling speeders for 50k lol)
5-Well everything connected with the resources will fly in the air and most of us will not be able to make it.
6-Bank dispose disabled so you have to make and alt to stack your stuff, then how many character we need if the bank can carry 100 items and toon can carry 80 only (make your calculation and see it by your self).
7-The dupers, cheaters, exploiters and who ever there names is (damn them they ruining everything) will stop there activities due to the new anti hack system for while till the thing calms and most forget about them, after month or so they will regain there work and we will see a lot of stuff that shouldn't be here in the first place resurface and the auctions goes for those crazy prices again, again and again...................... it will not end till another wipe and another and another.
8-And here we go again, people will show up "WE NEED WIPE!!!!!!" another Vicious circle that wont end!!!!!.
9-The OR will retarded because of the nonsense and the things will stay in same place rather than moving forward.
So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE guys be considering the devs decision, they haven't take it so lightly and without thinking about consequences, they have an idea in there minds i know.

Wow didnt know we had so many nge whiners on here. Im guessing the 66% of the voters who said yes never played pre cu?

So you think the whiners just showed up after the NGE? they were there pre-CU. That's how the NGE came about. ;)

has a right to complain

That would be true, cept they said they were bombarded with "concerns" i.e. complaints, from other players which they actually considered and then changed their minds about the wipe. IF nobody had complained, there would be a wipe.

See what I did thare?

That's why they should have reworded the original post in the poll. If they had simply asked the community for what they thought instead of saying "if yes wins we're wiping" it would have been fine.

Or, just be like real people and say "Hey, wipe coming up" and not ask, because you know what happens when you let the masses decide.

Anyone else notice that those screenshots that are supposedly evidence of a moderator "fixing" the polls actually show more votes being removed from no columns than yes columns? I don't have moderator access to the forums, so can't really see what options are available there, but the difference between the two screenshots is very minimal lol. We are talking about 2-3 votes being removed. Hardly evidence to call things a conspiracy.

As for us ignoring the community - The complete opposite is going on here. Yeah the majority said they would like a wipe, but the majority said they wanted a wipe with blue frogs.

There was a lot more behind the decision - it's not that the whining minority won out. We started thinking about the real effects the blue frogs would have, and realized offering them as a condition of the poll was a mistake.
- Players would have exploited the frogs to become Jedi faster, and it would have taken away some interdependence since everyone could become self sufficient.
- Changing the frogs to guard against these exploits meant changing the terms of condition.
- A third poll was discussed and decided against.
- We felt that if we just left TC the way it was, then it would be the best thing for both parties.

Instead we get crucified and compared to SOE. Come on people.

OR at the current rate is approximately 5 months out. But as always, Developers lives and available time can fluctuate at any given moment, changing the amount of time we have to contribute. Obviously this can drastically affect any ETA. So, yeah, if things stayed the way they had been rolling, I would say 5 months is realistic. I doubt the motivation will be there with all the lynching, but we will see.

P.S. Enjoy the new loot tables.

Let the whines begin about how unfair it is that some have all the epic weapons from the cheating and duping period now that the loot has been tuned down :)

Or did you tune up?

Seriously guys your killing the hand that makes the game we love.

Devs it should be a credit to you how seriously we take an incomplete test server. Thank you for your hard work. Please don't let the trolls and flaming get to you.

To those that didn't want a wipe - you win
to those that did want a wipe - you'll win when OR comes out and they wipe anyways.

I think a large part of this result was a backlash against many YES voters' baffling sense of entitlement. There was a pretty big degree of childish foot-stamping going on for someone to wipe them.

Of course that all stopped when the developers made their prompt and incisive decision as so politely requested by the community. Nobody would be classless enough to continue pouting and whining after that.

Decay is just fine. You cant go "negative" anymore from what I understand.

Its simple.

Old, uber weapons go boom on use (it might take weeks or a month or two).

Loot tables are brought more in line with where they should be (no more sentinel loot drops).

Now its a level playing field. Crafters will be usefull again as crafted items should be comparable to looted items and visa versa.

Thanks Crush... I think thats all we wanted to hear. A more specific reason. Now if we can get off the devs backs and let them get on with things with our support Crush has mentioned 5 months. Thats not a fixed term but it certainly more info than we had.

This is a good thing. Make me feel warm and glowy. Not glow-bat glowy, just happy.

:)

Decay alone is a wonderful constant credit sink. No, not for uber-doopers, but thats not the point.

C'mon people, the startpost clearly tells us they did not have any idea it would create this amount of hysteria. They clearly state this was not the intention. They saw this poll was deviding the community. The poll created uncertanty with the players.
All the comments made them see that a wipe wouldnt be benficial for us, it is a radical change, and as we all know, radical changed can be devestating (see CU / NGE). The moment they saw this, they Veto-ed the poll, A wise descision in my opinion.

Let us not forget what they gave / are giving us back. I fully support their descission.
