It's a good start However, unless you played Pre-CU it's hard to really get a feel of this game or a particular profession from just a book. Imagine the difference from a guidebook to New York City and living in New York city.

The guidebook gets you around to the big highlights like Times
Square and the well known shops. But you are still not a New Yorker and things that are out of place, you will not notice as being out of place. You can get scammed or ripped off until you learn, this is a good deal or that is not a good deal. You often sort of end up at the wrong place at the wrong time resulting in a very boring experience (why does no one hang out at Keren's medical center) or instant death (hello Kilomoglia).

Living there gives you an intimate understanding of city's pulse, how it all works together, what street is currently under construction (aka what profession needs a tweak), where to go for this or that, the city regulations (i.e., the equations that governed things), how to connect with that little shop that gives you the best deals, etc.

The best bet is to jump in and play on TC. It takes time but that bit, which is a good reference so dont throw it away, becomes much, much more.
