I'm kinda sad that EMU's official server won't be making ANY client side modifications. I was kind of looking forward to new weapons/armor and maybe enemies and planets, or even ships.

I'm not sure that's correct. Admittedly, I'm not 100% clear on it myself, but if you check out this thread:

I think you'll find that it makes a lot more sense and that, if I didn't interpret it incorrectly, SWGEmu (or an affiliated group) will have a development team working on some sort of additions in that vein.
