We will periodically be holding an open discussion for all community members to fire questions at the developers directly. This discussion will be held on SWGEmu's IRC (irc.swgemu.com:6667) in the channel #devchat. These discussions will last for roughly one hour.
How to Gain Access The #devchat channel is specially setup to help keep the discussion process orderly.
When you join the channel, you will messaged by the resident bot, thusly named DevChat. He will inform you that in order for your question to be considered for review, you must first ask him. After asking the bot your question, it will be distributed among a group of Question Masters (QM) who will decide whether or not the question is appropriate. If your question is accepted, it will be placed into a queue and eventually, DevChat will ask the Developers for the answer to your question. For example, the following would appear in the channel to all: <DevChat> JohnSmith asks, "Can you give us more details on what release 1.0 will include?" Now, a developer would address this question for all to see. Reviewing the Developer Chat Logs The logs from each month's chat will be posted in this Forum directly following the conclusion of the chat. This will allow you to read about a chat that you might not have been able to attend. ---------- Registering your Nick with NickServ In order to join the #devchat channel, you must be a registered user on IRC. To do this, you must first register your nickname. The syntax for this is as follows: After joining the IRC server and choosing the nickname that you wish to identify yourself, type the following command: /msg NickServ register password email Supply a unique password that you will use later to "identify" with your nickname, helping you take control of it if another unauthorized user is currently using it. Also, you must supply an email address. This will be used to help you recover lost passwords. Now that you have registered your Nickname, you need to "Identify" with the NickServ. This process is fairly easy and can be automated. Use the following command to identify with NickServ: Make sure that you currently have the nickname that you registered and type: /msg NickServ identify password You are now authenticated and can join the #devchat channel. What if someone is already using my Nickname, and I can't change to that nick in order to identify? Occassionally, another user might coincidently (or not) have chosen your registered nickname. Though the server warns them, it is often inconspicuous and overlooked; however, you can still regain control of your registered nickname. Type the following command: /msg NickServer ghost nickname password Suppliment your registered nickname in to the command above for "nickname" and then supply your password with which you registered your nick. This will temporarily disconnect the user who had your nickname from IRC, giving you the opportunity to regain control of your nick. So now, you would type: /nick nickname Then you would Identify with NickServ as was described above. Last edited by Max; 10-30-2009 at 05:10 AM. |
