Quality Assurance Team is Recruiting

SWGEmu Recruitment
Quality Assurance

About SWGEmu

SWGEmu is an open source project with currently over 35 volunteers. Volunteers develop and support the server software with the purpose of emulating the MMO Star Wars Galaxies (SWG), to a point commonly termed as Pre-Combat Upgrade (Pre-CU). This relates to a period between 2003-2005, which the community regards as the era SWG was a true sandbox with no linear content and no levels.
It is with this aim, that the volunteers and community want to bring back Star Wars Galaxies for all to enjoy once more, in that version known as Pre-CU. As of September 2010, the project has a community of over 50,000 active members.

About The Quality Assurance Branch

The Quality Assurance department (QA) is a part of the SWGEmu team. QA directly supports the developers by testing and researching. The prime directives of the project’s QA team is to:
  • Test, analyse, and report bugs from the community and staff
  • Test, analyse, and report on newly committed code from development
  • Research Pre-CU data and information
  • Communicate with the projects’ developers as needed in relation to testing
  • To support the QA supervisors and team leaders as required
The purpose of these activities is to enable the projects’ developers to release server software that functions as close to the Pre-CU rule set as possible. These expectations form the basis for bug fixing and new code, as part of the development life cycle.

The QA department, is divided into four main groups:
  • Crafting: Engineering, Domestic Arts, and Business
  • Combat: Brawler, Marksman
  • Medoutainer: Medic, Scout, Entertainer
  • World: Items, Structures, Creatures, Missions
QA also has another section called the Community Tester Team (CTT). The role of this section is to work directly with QA using the directives mentioned above. CTT was designed to assist in determining new talent, and will allow members of our fantastic testing community the opportunity to become official staff members. After a few weeks in the position, the applicant’s activity(ies) will be re-evaluated and based on certain criteria may make them eligible to be chosen for a promotion within one of the four QA groups.

CTT Responsibilities:

We are responsible for bug testing and research alone; we do not deal with community issues directly.
  • Preparing documentation and reports through a variety of systems including: forums, Mantis, JIRA, Wiki, and Google Apps
  • Communicate with QA and development staff via IRC, forums, and email
  • Minimum of twice a week, work on Mantis bug reports for testing and research
  • Minimum of twice a week, work on JIRA issues for testing and research
  • Work with your supervisors to fill in where necessary and research as required

CTT Requirements:
  • Superior knowledge and experience of SWG prior to the CU, which was released on April 27th 2005
  • Excellent English written communication skills
  • A minimum of 5 hours per week to devote to this position

CTT Preferred:
  • Active in the SWGEmu community with knowledge of features implemented and not yet implemented
  • Experience in working with one or more of the following: JIRA, Mantis, Google Apps, IRC, and forums (training will be given if needed)

CTT Documentation:

Information shared as part of this role is sensitive to the project. Therefore before any application can be granted, the applicant will be required to submit a signed Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (MNDA). Please refer to the documentation below.
