And I bring fairly good news.

We have decided to have a TENTATIVE public stress test the weekend of February 16th.

This is only a stress test and not a completely done server. So I'll cut the rumors down right now.

There "MAY" be full combat on it. We haven't decided if we want to release it widespread yet. There "MAY" be partial combat. We don't know.


Keep in mind, this is a TENTATIVE test. Plans could change. We could not have the test at all. It all depends on how things go.


Also, During the test, if you do not know how to run the client or join a server without someone holding your hand, you will be removed from the channel so people with intelligence can join and help.

So you have the next month to figure out how to run everything and how to get everything going.

How many clients do you hope to get into the stress test? Hundreds? Thousand or two? Although realistically unless you have the server running in several zones it would be impossible to hit thousands with just one PC or network connection. not even live servers can handle that much traffic.

I think live servers have a cap of 2000 per galaxy but thats between all of the sub-servers. I read somewhere that they use a couple of dozen computers per galaxy with each handling a particular area in the game. Each computer would only handle about a hundred players before showing signs of lag. I'll try to dig up details on that where I read it.

With how cheap large storage harddrives are these days how can anyone run out of space? Im getting close 549gb/725 total. But its so cheap to buy a 250/300gb hd that not having space these days is damn near ludicrous

As for herbzilla - So they dont want to, tough. I think it has a LOT more to do with the fact of HOW EASY it is to setup the Emu and connect to an Emu server that if you CANT do it you should be retarded, and such people would just flood the server with stupid, useless, and annoying questions and issues thus who would want any single one of them there.

However I agree partially because "Stress Test's" are about quantity not quality, yet this is their project they do on their own time so meh I'll just follow instructions so I can help out.

This is to be a stress test and I doubt that everyone will be able to get on for a few of reasons.
Firstly, I expect it will only run for a while so that the concentration of people is increased.
There will be a huge lot of people trying to give it a go, all at the same time.

The reason for this test is not a 'beta' as some have said. It is to put stress the ability of the Core3 server to handle a large number of connected clients. If they find that the server can only handle 80 people before lag or frame rate issues they might have to change stuff. If it easily handles 600 then I'm guessing they'd be happy. But please don't think they're doing this as a teaser, it's a sensible developer decision made for development reasons.

I'll try to get on it (as will most of us) but only to add my weight to the throng of others. If I can't get in - no big deal for me. I really hope it works well for the Dev Team and they get what they want out of it - I'm looking forward to the finished product.

Edit: Oh, and about the smart people joining the server thing, I'm a smart person and thats why im staying OFF The server and being patient and WAITING for some updates cause I know that if I try and get on during the stress test I probobly wont be able to because there will be hundreds of people, along with their friends that they tell all trying to get on at once and noone will be able to get on, so im saving myself the wasted time trying to get on and in the mean time I will return to my life :cool:

Whats basically happened is that someone from your isp has been on the irc channel and got themselves banned, they probably tried to get back in under a different nickname so their (and yours and mine) ISP was blanket banned.

I've pm/msged mods previously about this and had zero reply. I gave up trying to log in a long time ago and have resigned myself to not being able to help out testing. i guess i'll have to wait for the finished release before i get to try it out :(

I'm brand new to the SWGEmu forums and I'm already pumped over this. After learning how and where to put the modified files to get the client working, I'm going to learn how to use IRC just so I can drop in Feb. 15th and learn what it's going to take to get involved in the test (should the team decide to run it).

Personally, I think it's worth the trouble to help out when and where it's needed when I'm planning on playing on it.

The reason you haven't heard from Ultyma is because he rarely, if ever, checks his PMs. If you want, send me a PM with your IP, and I'll see what, if anything, I can do. I'm not making any promises, and in all likelihood there is little that may get done, but I will ask Ultyma about it on the IRC for you.

*edit* Ultyma will not be lifting any of the glines.

Personally, I don't think i'm actually going to be able to get the client to run properly by the time of the stress test. it really doesn't matter, most of us of us aren't even going to get to participate. i think i'll just wait for the full release.
