First off; Oru, ultyma, and TheAnswer deserve a BIG /hug for their work on Core3.

It's been an extremely frustrating, but fruitful day. I would like to remind those that still require technical assistance for their client to REREAD all guides posted on the forum, and ask for help inside topics on the forum BEFORE coming on IRC. IRC is NOT a live support center.

As some of the testers know, Core3 was plagued by disconnection bugs. One of which was fixed after ult constantly pestered Oru to fix :p But for the most part they have done a WONDERFUL job in building core3 to be a worth successor to our previous core.

Tonight we were able to get an enormous amount of people to help stress Core3 in preperation for the still TENTATIVE stress test on the 16th. It was common to see 21,000 bytes being sent out at one time just to sync a single client with the sheer number of people that were on the server in the same area. I personally believe core3 will hold up this friday, but let the shots do the talking ;)

http://swgemu.com/shots

THANK YOU to StarwarsFreak for taking some of the high rez shots seen in shots 4,5, and 8.

Thanks guys, that was amazing.

Yeah, I must say, ever since the private first test of core3, up til now, I have had a great time helping to test out core3... Seems like yesterday Oru was still getting the kinks out of the double chat bug... As Ramsey said, the SWGEmu team has done a great job for this, and especially Oru, for staying up waayy past his bedtime for this. And a thanks to all the other testers who help him find bugs everyday!

synapticAI

the project is better off closed source, as we've said before.

Without getting too off-topic, I think that once the emu is complete, in all aspects, and there are established servers in-the-wild, and it's proven to be a free, legal alternative to the evil-empires NGE drivel code, OSS'ing it would do well to catapult the project forward. If your into Linux, look at something like Beryl vs. Compiz. Compiz was closed source for the longest time, and then they OSS'ed it, and we got Beryl, which many many many will argue is much better than it's parent Compiz. That's just the way things work. Imagine if Vista was all of a sudden OSS'ed... Poof, there goes most of the security problems, and opens up a hell of a lot more opportunities for innovation that we'll ever see out of Redmond!

Case in point, let's look at the choice to code the Emu in C++ for instance. Good choice, but only because of the increase in development productivity. For sheer performance and stability (if you know the language well), plain ol' C would be a much better choice! I'm sure as hell glad they DIDN'T choose C though, because I'm greatly looking forward to playing pre-CU this spring, and not next winter!

My point is that once everything is established, why NOT open it to the world to let those who know how to really get down to the nitty-gritty and write a superior server-applet do what they do best? "There's always a bigger fish." :D

All in all, supreme props to the current Devs for giving us all a new hope (pun biatch) to play this dream of a game from a better era of our MMOG'ing lives. So mote it be!

Expect it to be a very long time. How long is very long? My brother says it sounds like maybe 2 more years. Myself I don't think it will be that long. But I can say that I would be surprised if it came out this year. This is just my opinion. I hope I am wrong.

The lack of lag is amazing, even with 70+ players all running around MO attacking each other and spamming like crazy. In that respect I think it has already surpassed the quality of SOE's servers.

I've only seen one bug besides the occasional disconnect... the combat queue bug. Is there a specific place where core3 bugs are posted/discussed ?

Some of us sit in the #test channel in IRC and know if Core3 is accesible. And as its been said, "tomarow" the 16th is tentative... don't blow your horns if it doesn't make the date.

Hmmmm... Well Im very very new here but Im glad to see this project is farther along then I though =P I am going to have a look at my systum specs and see if my computer can handle SWG without exploding, and if all goes well then great, if not I'll have to wait untill I can upgrade this thing. Regardless the whole project impresses me. I hope that I can meet to requirments and help out with the testing later on.

When I first herd about the NGE and how poorly liked it was I feared it might not be worth playing SWG, now it looks like I have some hope after all. :3
