The magic number.

Our server hit 278 clients in ONE AREA.

This is quite an accomplishment, considering the Live used clustered servers couldn't handle 100 people in a small area.

We did it with ONE SINGLE MACHINE.

And did I mention there was almost NO LAG AT ALL.

Oru and TheAnswer = the pwnleetsauce.

Thanks to everyone who came on to test. We will continue doing tests so hang around in #test or here to get info on when the server will be up.

EDIT:

Just because I've had a few requests, the server stats are as follows.

CORE 2 DUO 6300
2GB DDR2 RAM

I was very impressed with the dev's work. There are some connectivity issues to work on but once you are in, almost no lag. When everyone was in the MO at th very end spamming I experienced negligible server lag. It was amazing. Connectivity issues aside, much better than SOE's servers. I now have every faith that this team will restore SWG to its former glory and I can't wait to see what is next.

That's good and all but the testing could've been organized alot cleaner than you were going by. Next time you go doing a stress test like that again try allowing 50 people in, then hold off, and let 100 people, then 150 people etc. so that your login server is not being hammered the entire time of the testing. So that it's not crashing over and over. GJ tho.

It could have held that many, but there just weren't enough people around. Some gave up in the beginning when everyone was trying to get in (which it kicked you back to character screen). There are still plenty that haven't set up swgemu yet and probably some who just couldn't get it working. 500 is reasonable and would be a huge landmark.

Great job! Although I'm confused about something...-

Since you guys had less lag on one machine than SOE did on their clustered servers, what does that mean? That since not much was in the server (I assume things like many npc's, working terminals, etc. weren't in) there was less lag? Or possibly SOE used clustered servers from early 2000 and the machine used was relatively new? =) I'm not much for computer knowledge, my apologies.

Congratualtions for you successfull stress test! But keep in mind that a lot of processing intensive things aren“t implemented in the current version of the emu. A whole galaxy with hundreds of players toggling scripts and database queries... I think its not fair to compare a fully operational system like the seo real servers with the emu in its current state, although its great to see pre-cu coming alive!

It also means that progess is made over the years, and servers become faster and can handle a lot more, not just at a lower cost, but also more effectively.

I think it's quite possible to make a clustered server setup and run this Emu with whatever functions that are implemented, with the hardware we currently use, or any that is developed in the very near future. Besides the large number of players that is online, there are also random or static spawns of mobs / npcs, as well as player houses, and the vast quantity of personal harvesters. ;)

Now that one brings back memories. Except it wasn't the combat UPGRADE we were referring to. It was a revamp they had sold us on for eight months previous. This action also led to the first exodus of SWG. Though it was small and unoticed.

If you think about it they were probably working on the NGE as far back as pub 6.

Anyways enough reminicising. GJ on the recient stress test.

That screen makes where that guy is shouting that he wants more alternatives than just composite armor makes me think that they should just have taken out the need for armor, by simply making skills better or reducing the impact of dam / or mitigation, so you could wear anything. Now some people would still wear armor for the style, I guess. Like mando, RIS, padded, etc. Despite the ruin for AS, this would have brought the opportunity to people to wear whatever they liked, and such. Since it is an MMO, that would have been a welcomed solution for most players, I reckon. There would be an initial test of balance between the skills / reduced dam / resistance that you had, but as composite were pretty much always around 80-90% I don't see how that would have been very difficult.

I'd wager a guess that this is definitely one thing they wanted included in the test - hundreds hammering the server at once to see how well it held up.

The real life conditions won't be too organized, so why would they try to keep things orderly in a stress test of all things?

err.. your network CAPABILITY has nothing to do with how your internet is functioning at the moment. Everyone that uses broadband has 10/100/1000mbit wired ethernet or 54mbit wireless. Besides, no broadband internet uses all of your network speed, only a tiny fraction of it (normally 3mbit download, 1mbit upload). Full network speed is usually only implemented when transferring in-house data from one pc to another via hub or switch or router (or even peer-to-peer).

your INTERNET may be having problems beyond yours and your computer's control (ie: internet provider might be doing an upgrade on their server or someone killed the hamster that powers your provider's servers, or even the weather has a say on how well your internet runs).

The guy who replied to you is absolutely correct. It was your internet connect in or out of your house because you alone disconnected and/or lagged while noone else has (once everyone got through the login hammering problems).

=)

Good work devs! /tiphat

Afaik, alot of this is scrpits/database work, still time consuming but I know the spawn databases are almost/allready done.

I wasn't able to make it, but this is great news! Congratulations to everyone involved! I can't wait to see where this goes next. Perhaps one day, the game I loved will be back :)

I need a hand finding the IP for the TC server. Maybe next time I could get on and check out the progress. From the sounds of it, you guys and gals are doin a wonderful job. Keep pushing through. There's light at the end of the tunnel.

Ok, read closely: this is no ETA.

BUT!

What's next on the to-do list? How much more is left to do before we're at pre-cu?

Yea and almost no other object. Sorry to bust on this a bit but no npcs no ticket driods, and stuff dont you think that you are compairing apples to oranges. I say wait untill you get those objects loaded then say 278 in one area with no lag.

Other objects such as NPC's and whatnot take less resources to manage than a connected player.

lol@comparing your multithreaded dummy with no game systems implemented but a semi working combatqueue to an actual live server.

I would like to know where you are coming from in reguards to your claim that Core3 is a "multithreaded dummy". Core3 was a complete rewrite and has and has absolutely no relation to any previous software written by the project.

Perhaps someone is afraid of losing their Job to a "multithreaded dummy". I think it would be in the General SWG Population's judgement that SOE Pulled their last stunt w/ the NGE and the floorboard dropped under their feet....Have fun on that Noose SOE

Well done to the devs and testers! I have only heard good things in regard to the stress test.

Sadly I couldnt make the test myself, as I have not yet memorised the required console commands to become a valuable tester. More True Galaxies practice is in order!

Just wanted to congratulate on what seems to have been a near perfect stress test of your work so far.

Thanks for staying on the ball and working so hard to achieve what so many of us dream of. Can't wait 'til we can once again play the game that was snatched from us :)

Man, I missed it, but next time I wont...just have to still be ungrounded...and find the link because I missed how to get to it while I was grounded, but anyway soon I shall find it again, and it sounds like SOE should start prayin' because EMU is kickin' ass and going to soon be takin' their name
