Core3 is working really well for me and i'm getting minimal/nothing of lag. Great work Oru and co
Azhar your too slow, i'm FIRST!

second :P
tbh, when I logged in, first thing I did was forcerun away to the rebel base.
I experienced no lag, but from what I understand, its irelevent where you are because it's all on one server anyways.
But anyways, just thought you'd like to know, 5km away from Dant MO = no lag. Could be due to people uploading/downloading movement and combat packet among others in the same area.
More people, more data transfer.
edit: dammit I was first :P

Never have any lag apart from the chat and combat lag, however this, since the new patches is very in occasional.

I got it very rarely, and it was when there was a ton of people around in the MO. Relogging always fixed it though.

Well today was my first time on the Core3 test server and I get no lag at all in the Mining Outpost with the odd 30 people around me fighting, emoting et cetera.
Every once in a while I'll get a slight delay when attacking someone but I guess that's just due to the way combat is set up at the moment, and not lag per se.
I experience very little. When I do experience, relogging fixes it right away.

I voted having lag and still am simply because this computer isn't that great. However once I move away from the MO I have minimal lag. Great work Oru and TheAnswer.

I used to get lag when i got incapped. i.e. After the incap timer went down, i couldn't chat or use any of the macros. But i just tested it now and seems to be fixed for me.

03-05-2007, 05:05 PM
Relogging fixes the lag issue for me, however within about 4 mins its back to like press a key and 20 seconds later it happens, sometimes though it sorts itself out but not often, normally requires a relog.

03-05-2007, 05:30 PM
Well for the most part I rarely got lag, nor did I today (march 7th, 2007) but erratically once in a while I get lag, related to packet loss since last time I had severe lagspikes I tried pinging the server (chicago.swgemu.com) with command prompt and most of the time I got between 25% and 50% packet loss which is what was I assume was causing the lag. Anyways just thought I'd mention that.
I used to get a lot of chat and command lag, but now it seems to be pretty much fixed.

When we had the first big test, using an ASUS laptop with 2.17 Ghz processor, 2 GB Ram, and a hotel network connection at 11 mbps, I was getting lag like crazy. Chat took forever, and combat/heal commands were very slow.
Last night I logged on from home with the same laptop with my wireless cable connection operating at 54 mbps. I got no lag whatsoever, no disconnections.
Combat is still buggy as hell of course, but it looks like you guys are making fantastic progress! Thank you so much for selflessly putting in so much time on this project!
What I thought was lag yesterday really wasn't lag at all. It was people spamming warcry and delaying me so I couldn't do anything like attack, heal, or whatever. I could speak though. Its bugged by the way and should break if you get attacked, I think, but it doesn't. Hope people aren't confusing warcry with lag. Otherwise lag free yesterday when I was playing.
I had some combat lag.... delays in specials firing etc...

No lag. Just the occasional disconnections, that's it.

This is basically the same kind of lag I received, basically only with the stress test with just a couple disconnects. As of current I'm getting no lag, or very minimal and so far no disconnects.
thanks for the replies. i would like to ask everyone still having bad lag to PM me on IRC, especially people who experiencing it with no one around them

I used to have lag around the time the #test channel was created
after a few weeks (patches) it went better and better
right now it's better than it was on SOE servers (I live in Europe and always played on US server)
so for the lag part, very nice job

I thought it was fantastic. It was pretty cool that you guys were able to pull it off. I am really hoping that you can get this done asap, but don't rush it. Perfection is key =). Really fantastic job with the combat! Keep up the good work!

MY computer lately has been getting lag and crashing problems. Logging into the core 3 server last night was the best and most trouble free experience yet with swgemu however. Core 3 is a solid canvas, I know I'm no expert on how your server is running, but I believe we are close to if not at the final build. I was amazaed at how well it run last night.

i've only been on core 3 once, but from that one experience it was great, i don't think i've spent enough time on it for my vote to be considered accurate on the poll, but it's was good when i got on, btw that was on a day that my connection was really bad if that matters, i wouldn't think that it would considering that you're just trying to figure out how well core 3 is performing, but then again i'm not an expert on programming or networking so i wouldn't know

Network lag is really pretty minimal, DC's can be a problem however.
So far 87% of the voters report -as of the last test- theres little/no network lag. Well done.

There's still some lag-causing bugs somewhere. One might be the combat query not dumping on death, causing the clients to still send combat packets and clog client to server connections.
I've noticed, that when Chat and combat lag get fairly high, targeting someone and using /attack clears it up normally. (Thanks to Sathe for telling me that.)
In any case, SO much better now.
I got lag. Relog fixed it.
Mostly it was First no lag then a after a momment slow response then barley any response then either DC or Suddenly i get what ive been trying to say right away (IF i said testing. then testing again later after like 1 minute it would come 2 chat bubbles saying Testing)
And combat had same problem.

I experience no lag at all. The only thing i keep experiencing is the weird lock up where u cant do anything and watever u used to have in your queue goes off randomly. Ive noticed it happens a lot when i click the peace button. Maybe just my suspicion i dunno. But other then that this is amazing and blows SOEs server out of the water.

Yeah I was on last night for a couple of hours and I didn’t get disconnected at all or experience any lag. I would only relog to get force back. I only have one problem and it’s that my packet loss is always really high but it doesn’t seem to affect anything. Other than that, awesome job guys. =)

Lag suxs, no way around it, however, considering the fact that there were 400 some odd people in one area it was a pretty good result.

03-06-2007, 07:43 PM
I think the problem people were having with lag is their own fault, they probably were standing in the spawn area during the stress test or trying to use a bugged attack such as warcry.

I had some lag during the last stress test, sometimes my actions happening 10-15 seconds after I clicked them.
I had quite a few disconnects too, until I got out of the congested area.
The disconnected happened often when I was just running around exploring, not dueling or anything.
Thanks for all the hard work!

Today mostly heals are bunching up, not executing and lounging in the qeue box.
Otherwise... Factions are fun.
need more poll options imo
ive had a ton of lag when the first stresses where hitting, and its down to a moderate-but-playable amount half the time, and the other its like playing on the lan its so lagless. good direction.

I was astonished by how well it ran. I played precu for a long time and it never ran as smoothly for me as core 3 did. I only had one d/c the entire time and when I was in the game it was virtually lagless.
Let this be a programming lesson to the $OE devs. ha!
Keep up the terrific work guys, it's really paying off so far :D .

Unfortunately I can only give feedback from the first stress test as SOE's sabatauge meant I missed the second. The game ran very smoothly, very little lag, maybe even none, the odd disconnection but I think that was expected.

Was laggy as **** when I was on today, everyone was - everyone spamming "lag" and "queue" over and over. I heard there was some "debugging" going on and that was causing the lag, whatever that means. Was that even it? lol.

Well, all I can say is... I'm on a University connection, and even I didn't lag.
That being said, there are a LOT of other games I still lag in. I can't really even find a Battlefield 2142 server I don't get a bit of lag in. Hell, I have friends that lag in World of Warcraft all the time.
Thus, I'd say these patches were fairly successful.
adammon123
03-07-2007, 02:03 PM
Well not much lag but I noticed a delay in speiclas firingup sometimes but not always and some specials dont have animations...
I just got out of testing. I am on a slower connection (around 270kb), however this is the same connection when i played on SOE servers way back when (lag was rarely an issue until the CU). On many occasions I used modem dial up to play and it wasn't too terrible.
I am getting 50% packet loss and specials/heals/chat is really laggy taking up to 20-30 seconds before the action occurs. Granted there were a fair number of people in the server and i was getting ganked left and right.
Are there any tweaks i should be mindful of when using this "slower" connection? Anyone know if the emu is optimized for slower connections?

Connected to the server fine on 2nd tentative test.. disconnected quite a few times due to large amount of people around or the server shutting down.. Once I got in very far distance of the outpost i was no longer getting disconnected from the server, and it was swift after that.
During dueling jedi's, the posture change move didnt register , or saber throw (saber knockdown) move didnt register all that much eather. IN PRECU SWG, I would guess (based on my personal gaming exp).. 70% of the time they would register. But in SWGEMUCORE3 it must've been registering nearly around 10-20% of the time.
( EDIT: I did a little re-wording to make it sound right. Which would be closer to what I was thinking. I smoke herb. ;) )
Other than that, everything else looks fantastic, chat was good. And thats all you need to know from me :)
Kudos to Oru, Ultyma & Ramsey, etc.

Posture changes and knockdowns were never set to land 70% of the time. It was based on the person's defense vs posture change and defense vs knockdown. Since there are no defense mods in Core3 yet, it can't base it off that. Hence, it's completely random.

I was on last night with a friend of mine, and I ended up lagging majorly at one point. My friend and I were sniping Imperials from a hill just outside the Mining Outpost and after my 3rd kill I wound up lagging big time. The problem was that I had been spamming Headshot3 for each of the targets and when all of them were KOed the game took ages to show all the "invalid target for Headshot3 action". It took 3 minutes to clear so I could fight again, by which point lightsaber wielding Imps were on top of us and I was dead in seconds.
Oh, and my snipershot kept giving me an "invalid target" response when trying to db the Imps at range, yet it worked for my friend who was right next to me.
Any word on this? Just curious.
it's in the works, probably gets finished today
the pauses were less last nite than in previous times ive been in..Also would im running everything maxed out then slowly turning things off seeing were i start to delay. So far ive stayed consistant in having delays..1 to 2 seconds now vs 5 to 10 seconds i had before,,

A quick question: when you found out the reason for the lag, did you also figure out why certain ppl experienced it and not others? I've personally never experienced any lag whatsoever outside of the stress tests, and that I don't think was "lag" per se, but just my lousy comp having issues keeping the framerate up.

From the poll it looks like lag is overall ok, but it could use some work still.... Although we have no clue as to how much lag we will have once NPCs, Mobs, and all the other stuff are put into the game... Who knows? Perhaps things will be alright.

I signed in at random times throughout last week including times that I would consider peek times and no discernible lag was evident. My son reports continued lag on all the servers that SOE can keep live. Great work guys.:)

I think it's pretty decent now, after whatever changes you've made I dont get much lag if any now. The invisible characters bother me though :p

No lag whatsoever on this end. There used to be, but with the most recent patches, its completely lag-free.

No lag, no matter how long i play - until i get pwned. After respawning i have massive chat lags, sometimes for about 10 mins then it's ok, sometimes i need to relog. Text takes about 30 secs till it appears then. Everything else works fine.

Not really experiencing any lag, excellent job on Core3. I've only experienced it about twice and both times were immediately after cloning. It seems to be running very smoothly.
Keep up the good work!
i never lag i even tried to make myself lag to test the test center i couldnt lag awesome job Emu
I run on dialup so I suppose my opinion wouldn't count too much but I get bad lag and then usually get disconnected after a little while of playing... but on the official SWG servers I seemed to be able to play ok as long as I wasn't in a crouded area of more then 30 people (fighting)
When I logged into the test server I tried running far away from the MO but it didn't seem to help much... I'm getting highspeed in a month (hopefully) finally so maybe then I can get a real impression.

So far so good. I like how the states are working. Not much lag i was able to fraps a huge battle in and around MO. My FPS was 28-30 during the fight. Freaking Awesome.

We are just testing the game it isn't even done yet if thats what you are asking. You can log onto SWGEmus server the IP is chicago.swgemu.com. But the server isn't done you can log on and PVP a little and thats about it. Its mainly for testing though.

I still have tons of it its so annoying and I hate it cause you cant do regular attack with just clicking you have to do a special and I cant push numbers to do it or press f1-12 so it sucks so I cant turn when im fighting its so gay!

Lmfao.. why are you here??
not a bit of lag for me :) lol cant say the same for live
Wait until it's done :D. There's still a bit of packets that still need to be added. Just working on getting combat working now.
Even then I still expect the Core3 to run better than the live code. lol.

Why.. the hell.. do people still play the NGE? "ZOMG I CANT HIT f1-12!" That's your fault, not SWGEmu's.. try dealing with your own personal issues before you come bashing anything other than yourself.

Progress seems, great, hopefully you guys host an official server, sucks about the speed hacks, may have a system message that comes on when you log on telling you to test animations not run around killing everyone

Most of you people who claim lag...get more RAM. It's more often than not the cause of what you believe to be network lag.

I agree, if you aren't using 1.5GB RAM or up you may encounter some memory issues.

Um we didnt make the game, we're just doing the server. Thats the system requirements for the CLIENT and NOT the server.

Its a stable one, have many improvement, but we can only be sure when we get the spwam, NPC's and then we can have 100% sure, in my opinion this should be the next think on the list of the SWGEmu team, now we can have 400+ on the same spot, but lets seen when its all working

I made a video just to show you my lag, but my graphics card blew up on my other PC, and I can't even boot it. Anyway, I stood around 400m from the mining outpost and tested the chat delay. At that time, it was about half of 1 second. As I ran closer to the outpost and the population increased, the delay got much, much bigger. Eventually, by the time I was inside the mining outpost, I had a delay of over 20 seconds with all the people around.
My cable connection is absolutely fine, too. I shouldn't have had such lag.

I understand that you don't owe us anything, and all that and you do this on your own time, but how do you expect us to give you feedback if the TC is only up for 5 minutes every 10 days...
