I would like to give a fast update on the server status. Since we changed platform to 64-bit, we have faced a lot of trouble and it wasn't core3 that was problematic. Seems the 64-bit version of Debian is not as well tested as it supposed to be but thankfully TA was managed to fix most of the related problems. However there seems to be some networking errors now, i don't know if it's our engine or the provider but zone keeps bouncing back people to the login screen after the zoning process is initialized. We are going to try to fix this as soon as possible! We would like apologize again for all the downtime.

Relocating the Nova TC to its new home in Denver


This is awsome, It's only about 2 hours away, (not as many I-net conections to go through) so I shouldnt have as much lag. Thats way cool.

I feel that. I have been watching the project for a while now and logging time in on the TC for a bit. Over the last month or so the apparent rate of progress seems to have accelerated significantly. I feel like that Sun Crusher is just around the corner.

Nova went up ealier but is now down for some reason. DB was wiped as stated.

I can report that the denver server is ALOT faster than the old one, alot less or none at all rubber banding.. its a huge step for swgemu

Hello Everyone.

The Nova Test Centre was taken down late on Monday March 16, and will remain offline for a period of time.

Expected Uptime: (subject to change!)
Thursday March 19
~9PM EST

In this downtime we are doing the following things:

Switching Operating System to Debian (64bit) Etch


We have completed the TC move to Denver, started to roll out the new website front end, and transferred our Web Services to the older server in Chicago.

The Denver TC was up for a short period of time - thanks for testing the new features. The new crafting features made testing a little more interesting :). (http://swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20748) We are switching off of Debian (64bit) Lenny because we ran into too many issues. Etch is what we ran, and continue to run, on Chicago.

As soon as the tech's @ the Datacenter reformat the machine, we will work as fast as possible to bring the TC back online.

Sorry about all of the downtime for our services. These changes are inevitable as the project continues to pick up speed.

Nope you are absolutely correct, and it is CET -6 so it will be up at 3AM Paris, Berlin, Rome...

There's still a spot where they're lined up for easy access, but yes... It will be just like the original. In fact, all of the original trainers should be in their place as well. Feel free to look around and make sure, and if you think one's missing report it and help get things as close to Pre-CU as possible! :)

technically the game server didn't crash day 1 it was the login server that did. cause those of us lucky enough to get in and stay in played all day long taking advantage of the group mission bug that carried over from beta.

that's the E is ETA....ruffly gonna happen tonight....maybe. It IS an estimate.

They decided to change-up the Debian OS last minute so the original estimate was pushed back a day. That might happen again. Lets hope the new server OS install is smooth, like my shimmering curly locks on a Kashyyk summer's day. As well as the server software and setup, then the SWGemu server needs setup.

It's a bunch of tedious techy work that frquently reveals obstacles that were unforseen.

There was already an update yesterday, as seen here (http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20748), and since there hasn't been much testing of it, it's safe to say there won't be another update for a little while.

Correct. TA & Oru aren't quite done with the setup. It is currently 1:40AM in Hungary & Spain, so I'm sure either one will open up the Zone Server when they wake up.

It does look like the Database was _not_ wiped from the last time Denver was up. I know how much you guys hate waiting, but I wouldn't stay up and wait for them to unlock it. I will post an update on the status when I wake up @ 6:30am EST.

Syncing the TC with the latest revision just means recompiling and putting the latest version of the Test Center online. Revisions are code commits made to SVN, which you can track here: http://trac2.assembla.com/swgemu/timeline. Thoop recently commited some factory patches, which might make it on TC tomorrow of TA recompiles.

Note that it could take more time than that, so if it's not up in 24 hours, don't start freaking out. It is a test center, after all. Please don't make any unnecessary posts about stuck at loading objects or the server not being up; we know.

Surely it's been said before, but patience is a virtue. We should all take this chance to thank Oru and TheAnswer for keeping the server running smoothly time and time again, and for rising to meet issues such as these. And in the meantime, go read a book or go outside, I bet it's been a while for some of us ;>. Keep yourselves busy, and the server will be back up before you know it.

I have to disagree with you kel on just one little point, I wish they had said PLEASE do not ask about test server status.. the current msg reeks of SOE and the way they treated their player base.. any old timers who were kicked out of Theed during the NGE riots will know what I am talking about.

But I can understand why they would do it. Too many people are lazy and post a new thread or ask when it will be up when two posts previous someone asked and got an answer.

To compare the team to SOE isn't fair as we were paying for a product from SOE where as the SWGEMU team is doing this for free and out of their own time so they cant be held to the same standards as SOE. So its completely understandable that some irritation might show when you have lots of people posting/PMing when the server is going to be up when its all available on post #1

The SWG developers did not suck because they were jerks, they sucked because they did ****ty things to the game, and then didn't let people speak out.

The emu devs don't want the entire playerbase making threads asking about server status because it takes time away from doing useful work on their part to delete all of the useless threads.

I would like to point out that I was the one who sugjested the Idea. And for good reason. After the last 3 days of "when will the server be back up" and "I cant get past loading objects" posts, every 5 minutes. It got really tiresome to reply to every one the same way.

Eh, that's pretty close to how this forum operated almost two years ago or so, and they've kinda changed their mantra. They're seeming to want to skate the line between being direct and being nice, as to not insult people. It's a happy medium, but it's hard to maintain.

I'd be in support of such a policy, but some would argue that those people just don't know how to use the forum correctly, and that's not exactly their fault.

I'd argue that anyone who doesn't know how to use the damn forum shouldn't be here anyway.

Alright, I believe we all understand the need for a statement (which is now removed) about the server status threads. Please or no please, the imperative is the same; people NEED to stop creating threads about it. Post in this one for all it matters, as long as the forums aren't being interrupted by something as minor as a 72 hour downtime.

There need be no further discussion on Tanni's point. It was received and noted, though not quite in line with the sentiment in which our little message was posted. The sentiment was not "hey guys, its starting to get a wee annoying all these threads" it was "stop it. i'm wasting my time sorting this stuff. stop it."

They are not talking to one another as of right now. Give it a bit before you try, and as it stands, the servers are not up, so you would not be able to get into the game. They are working on it, so please be patient. When the time comes, you will be informed, through the forums and IRC that the servers are back up, and you will also notice the people disappearing from both as a mad rush to log in will occur.

From what I have read so far, you will still have about, if not more or less, another 24 hours before anything new happens.

I will say this. I read these forums, and see see impatience and i see frustration. The one thing that I can say I really appreciate, is the fact that the devs are doing this on their own(/bow), and are working hard to please every one. I think we can all agree that SOE NEVER did that!!! I, Myself have been in the IT world, and understand what it takes to do what they are doing. I LOVE the pre-cu game and will wait patiently for terrific results, as opposed to rushing into crap. This is a TEST server, and we have to realize that we are all working together to make this better that SOE ever dreamed about. Let the devs do their jobs, and we will do ours, by trying to break it...lol.


I would make one suggestion, Take it for what it is worth. I would put up the old server, to satisfy the masses, while the other server is getting the bugs out. That is the way we would move servers in the past. Keep in mind I am not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to help in any way I can.

Finally, I would like to thank you ALL for bringing back the only "game" that was worth playing.

Thank you for the update, you guys are doing an excellent job. Everyone has to remember most of the posts that end up locked are done so by someone not being paid to deal with your bs. Make it easier on swgemu developers... don't post about server status, don't ask about jedi, don't ask about an ETA on SC, and don't ask about server status.

When you join IRC you get a message that says don't ask about server status, and guess what? People still do it.

I was having the same issue for the past 2 days where the banner at the top of the forums alway said the server was online even though it really was not. I had to keep checking irc every hour or so to see if it really was online. Whatever happened at the last offlining of the server fixed the banner issue for me, now it says offline and the server really is offline.

*Edit* Ok maybe it didn't fix the banner issue. It's doing it all over again and it's really annoying getting my hopes up like that.

The banner means little when our guys are actively working on the server. They might disable the login server and run the game, leave them both down and status could break, or maybe it's just down.

Who knows O.o Just roll with it and enjoy the next uptime.

Isn't Endor supposed to be a no-build zone? I seem to remember you couldn't build anything on Endor, Dath, or Yavin 4...

Yes and no.
Harvesters and factories can be placed on those planets, but no dwellings (Houses, med centers, cantinas, etc.)

I would like to give a fast update on the server status. Since we changed platform to 64-bit, we have faced a lot of trouble and it wasn't core3 that was problematic. Seems the 64-bit version of Debian is not as well tested as it supposed to be but thankfully TA was managed to fix most of the related problems. However there seems to be some networking errors now, i don't know if it's our engine or the provider but zone keeps bouncing back people to the login screen after the zoning process is initialized. We are going to try to fix this as soon as possible! We would like apologize again for all the downtime.
