Test Center is deadlocked. As a result, the various status monitors such as the one at the top of the forum and in my sig, state that the server is online, when in fact it is not.

As we all know, two processes waiting for each other to complete is creating the deadlock. As soon we can, we will identify the problem and restart the server.

There is no ETA. It might be soon, it might be late tonight. Hang in there, and thanks as always for your support of SWGEmu!

Aloha

Well at least I know now why I can't get in. :D Thanks for the info Ekaika. I'll keep pondering the secrets to the unlock system and watch some Scrubs. :D

SCAM is better. But no one knows how to play SCAM. It's the game of international drug smuggling.

"We encourage players to play and have fun during this time, as you will not need to worry about database wipes until the object restructure hits."

Nope..unless they have to, or plan on hitting us with it now. :lightsaber:

People already posted links to explanation to a deadlock and no; there should not be a wipe. That is usually for getting rid of certain...problems and or implementation of new code. This is just basically some sorta bug with the code made the server lock up and we are waiting on the server admin to hit the switch, as it were. Just relax, chill, and go do sumthin else. I ma go shoot people in gta4 and add to my many hours of pwn footage. Hehe.

Gist of a Deadlock, 'cause I know some will be too lazy to click...

When a complex computer program, such as SWGEMU, runs multiple processes or multiple processing threads...basically, not all one monolithic thing, but divided up into smaller chunks that are processed individually and separately, two of those processes/threads will get into such a state where quite literally two of them are waiting for each other to finish something in order to continue.

It's as if Bob and Lisa were both writing a report, and both need numbers from each other's reports in order to finish theirs. When they get to the point where they need the other's numbers, they stop and cannot continue until the other finishes. Since both are in this state, this never happens. And when they try to call each other to get the numbers, they both get a busy signal because each is calling the other.

So the server grinds to a halt while Bob and Lisa are twiddling their thumbs waiting for something that will never come.

Hahaha I love your explanation btw ^_^

AHA! Thanks Leo for the link directly to this thread.

There has got to be a better place to put an announcement of this magnitude so that its easier to locate, and is obviously still relevant. Like in big flashing letters on the first page of the forums. So even stupid people like me can notice it. Before we start asking dumb questions.
