Most likely..

I think the servers are in europe too, so as it's early morning here (1:40am GMT) i doubt they'll be resetting the server till the morning.

When the staff that have the privileges and experience to pull the logs from the deadlocked server, diagnose the problem, enact a solution (or workaround), and get things up and running again can do so, it will come back up.

They are both in Europe. When they get the opportunity hinges on many things, such as sleep, life, work, study, mood... etc.

No. A live server won't have these problems. This is development, much different. We won't release until we're fiarly comfortable that the codebase is ready.

A deadlock is when "Process A" waits for "Process B" to finish, but "Process B" is waiting for "Process A" to finish. Neither can work without the other.

Basically, a communication problem.

If memory serves, they talked about a different setup with the TC:SC server when it gets started. I think it was to be state-side. Don't mean to start a rumor if I'm wrong, but that's what I remember reading way back when...

People who have not played SWG since 2004 are coming to emu in droves. SWTOR will be amazing but it will never be pre-cu that is open to all.

unfortunatly there seems to be a trend with MMO companys having to re-invent the genre,basicly from the history of MMO games there are a set of solid must haves in any new MMO,auction house type system ingame mail WP updates ect{ and a few others that i cant think of right this miniute},however they focus on a factor that has NEVER kept a game giving to its playersbase, GFX are for the al bundy of gamers they give a 2 min wow and then are forgotten as soon as the fun starts.

Voice acting is a major undertaking in HDD space and a simple little error can mean a download of 2-300 MBs, just ask all the ppl haveing to download big updates everytime they fixed a couple of the dialogues in AOC,it pains me to see a new MMO at this time going for the same thing except supercharged, they claim that all of the voices will be voice acted, not just a few of the main quest NPCs like AOC had.

I'm pretty sure that the only time the server would not claim to be up during a deadlock is if the staff just came in and shut it down so they could fix the problem.

Because the server technically IS up. Deadlocked is not the same as down. It's still up, but frozen for the moment. I'd recommend using the IRC support channel for the most accurate info. available (as far as I know).

As I understand it the staff are in Europe, but the servers are stateside. Also it's a bit more complicated than pressing the reset button. They want to make sure the problem does not repeat, so they have to identify and hopefully eliminate the problem. soz.

I would love to see and know what is going on from the Staff...Seeing the server up, and not possible to login a character, makes people thing that there is a problem rather with their connections, the game, or the server. Out of curiousity ... are these deadlocks in the database or in the server ?

Regarding server cap ... it shouldn't be hard to add an extra check to the login server to see how many characters you already have logged in?? ( select from account where login=1 and account_id is same). Maybe add it as a parameter to the conf file so it can be set. With that you can limit the number of active characters per account.

People don't seem to realize it's not just a simple reboot.

They also check the logs for the problem and fix it so it doesn't happen again. (at least for that reason)

If they just rebooted it over and over again the logs would be erased and the problem persists.

This is quite strange, change the deadlocked announcement to offline and put it on the LPE status page. http://www.swgemu.com/status/

I mean, the server is just OFFLINE, not like it's new to us!

Perhaps the mods just had the time to do a quick update, or it's planned to take longer than expected, we'll see.
