At around 7pm EST, TC:Nova went down due to maintenance at our datacentre in Denver, CO. Our provider has not announced an estimate for when this maintenance will be complete. No code changes will ensue.

It is my understanding that it is the provider that is doing the maintenance, so the provider not giving estimates is somewhat relevant. But maybe its just me.

And a know fact is that people that restart the server are already asleep since they live in Europe and Max in Australia and neither of these to are relevant nor are Max's sleeping habits. ;)

In short, there is no ETA.

It's 6 AM here on the west coast of the U.S. The server has been down since I finished my finals yesterday. I planned an all nighter so I could grind my way up the doc/carb trees. 2 Resealable Monster cans and a sugarfree redbull later, I'm still sitting on the forums killing time until either the server starts up or until my next final starts.

All in all.... I have no regrets.

hehe the irony here is that when SOE has this much down time, the community calls for John Smedley's head on a pike, and have all kinds of loving terms for the developers. You guys are being a lot nicer to the Emu team than you are with SOE for sure, and thats not a bad thing. lol, if SOE bounces the TC and it takes a long time to load you want to burn their offices down as a penalty for perceived incompetence.

anyhoo..this is a good test... a test of operations and what needs to happen when the hampster running the server gets its leg stuck in the wheel and it wont turn, and who is spose to go get him unstuck before he starves to death or bleeds out. Hoepfully nobody is playing the 'hey I thought you were spose to get him unstuck game'. be nothing but a desicated hampster husk left after Xmas break if that is the case.

Seriously though, this is not bad thing, just a inconvinience, and it is a good lesson for how to handle downtime issues for SunCrusher. You learn just as much from things going wrong as you do from them going right.

Amphitryon i dont think that is the issue. Noraa said she called and they said there was no down time. Yet max said they were. I did look on the datacenter site and forum and did not see anything listed about dever downtime. I think if something else is going on then it should be said. if there is a banking issue or someone had their hands in the cookie jar then that can be fixed. just think we should all be honest here if there is a problem say so and we can help fix it. After all is that not what open source is about?

Just a thought that all of you that believed and/or believe the post about a staff member taking money and they now can't pay the bill, think of this: Why would the SWGEMU team lie to us? We aren't required to pay them, and for most of them this is their second job. This is funded purely on out donations, not subscriptions. They have no business to lie to us saying that it's downtime. If they didn't have the money to pay they would have come right out and said it, merely saying that because of the lack of donations, our server has be suspended. They have no obligation to us, that they would make up a false lie about a server maintenance. Also i have no doubt that if the donations do come up short on the bill they would pay it out of pocket.

It happened once before that we know of so it's not too far out in left field to have that suspicion.

I respect the SWGEmu team to all hell.. they have brought me back to an amazing place that I never thought I would get to experience again. But trust is a completely different matter. Trust must be earned.. by anyone.. no exceptions.
and so I agree on both fronts really.. we should all chill out and see what happens..
But.. it would be beneficial for the EMU team to inform us as accurately as possible to what the situation may be.. because it will earn our trust and as one person pointed out already, we may even be able to resolve the situation.. regardless of the cause.

I also find it reassuring that they're working on making regular expense reports available. Having those figures open to us should help us resolve many of the doubts we may have. I too respect the staff and trust them to some extent, but the main reason I've put off donating is I want to be certain my money will be put to good use. I'm sure many are in the same boat.

Though, as has been very directly said, spreading rumors publicly is unwise and inconsiderate. Even if one has some old basis for suspicion or doubt, voicing it just makes that person seem bitter and resentful. The staff has changed and is making further changes. We'd be wise to base our opinions on current facts.

But now I'm logging off of this tiring drama game and back onto THE game. :)

We were speculating as to why we were being told one thing by max and another from the datacenter.... And what possable reasons there could be for the differrence.

Please do not ever call FDC or any other provider again on our behalf looking for information or complaining. We can deal with it. Multiple sources of contact and complain simply cause confusion, misinformation and mistakes.

I told you all on page 2 the situation regarding information confirmation and that being the reason for the delay.

I'm a bit offended right now to be honest. One day of down time and suddenly we're thieves? We'd better go call send the police to SW:ToR and SWG:NGE whose servers were also offline for maintenance today.

Ask for more information and then not believe it when you get it? Chux, thanks. Makes a lot of sense.

Why should anyone trust devs 100%?

You act like people have nothing on the line, but they have their own personal money being donated to the project. So they just were brainstorming reasons why the server wasn't up.

I am a little shocked that people responded this way.

We told you why it wasn't up. We provided you with adequate information through this thread and through IRC. To be frank, there is no other alternative when it comes to trusting the info the developers give. Either you believe it, or you don't. And if you don't you really should not remain a part of this community.

If you as a donator really can't take that for face value, you really shouldn't be donating in the first place. Donations are about trust and belief; belief in the cause you're donating towards, and trust of its well-use. If you do not have those two things, I would advise against donating.

Not trusting people is one thing, publicly accusing them of a crime is a completely different thing. And without any evidence at that.

If i didn't know better i would be inclined to believe that you purposely tried to discredit the STAFF and create a disturbance.

I think you have a duty to tell others if someone tells you that.

There is a new invention called PM, you use it to contact a member of the STAFF and let him confirm or deny your suspicions.

For what you did people in RL go to court, pay hefty fines even end up in jail mate.
