i was told this was ok
and have had my crafter doing his sampling on my pc while i play on my laptop
i spoke to one of the mods on irc about it and he said it was ok
if a dev sees this and it is not ok please do tell me
iv tried runing the 2 on my laptop since i recently found out how but it starts heating up really bad
so i would prefer to keep doing it the way i have bean
It is OK, having multiple instances is on two different computers is fine, you can also run two instances on the same computer.
However, like i said before, same person having two different accounts is against the rules.
So you are fine, nothing to worry about.

I read most of the 17 pages of this post and am still lost. If my wife and i want to play on two computers from the same house, I e-mail phantomleader? Like, what is the full address for the e-mail?
What do I do to run 2 characters on one account on one computer? People were calling it Mult-boxing? It sounds like the 'allow multiple instances' from SWG. But i do this with one account huh?
I can also run two characters from one account on two computers at the same time?

My wife and i play different accounts from same house.
-Diff accounts...same house....behind one router...different PCs
-if you have issues contact PhantomLeader by their profile...just click their name on very first post...sry i cant copy-paste here
I play two characters from my account on same PC
-Get in game....hit alt+tab to shrink game....start game again....log in again...pick different character...go back and forth by alt+tabbing
These are both legal...you cannot have two accounts for yourself, but honestly you dont need it. :)
AtronuTragona...PM me if you need more help.

My question is, is there a maximum of instances for the account that one person can do? because if there is then the first page should read "you cannot have multiple accounts, but you can run X amount of instances on that account. because i have been told at most i can run 2 instances by in game players. So... i would just like some clarification.

One person, one account, two instances logged at the same time.

Thank you for that clarification if the First page can be edited to say "2 instances" instead of "Multiple instances" that would be awesome. I think that would Just Be more specific So no one breaks the rules.
I was allowing my daughter to just putz around i one of my toons but since you are only allowed to dual box i will need to get her account. Correct me if i am wrong. Please

This will never stop being a problem. The emu team will have to constantly be deleting spam/bot/multiple accounts; it's part of having a community like this. At Canon we also have a no tolerance policy about multiple accounts, so we are trying to stay ahead of the game from the get-go by deleting suspect accounts when they are made.
The only hope is that posts like this one will help minimize the amount of duplicate accounts created out of ignorance.

When this thread was created multiple instances were allowed, but after the last patch and growing interest in TC, server cap had to be implemented and multiple instances were restricted to only two. It would be a great idea to edit the OP, but only a moderator or the person that created this thread can do it, so its all up to them really.

Sure, if you want your daughter to play along with you another account would be the way to go. There are two ways to do it. Create her an account and if it gets banned send an email to community@swgemu.com, explain your situation and ask them to unban her account. Or send an email to the same email address first and inform them that you will be needing a second account for your daughter and wait for them to instruct you on what you should do next.

I Don't get it.. what is so hard to follow rules. why is it so hard to accept that they the emu dev crew is already going out of there way to let us even play while we wait for them to finish the or and such. This is NOT by any means soe you players don't need to treat them as such.
as a side note i think if maybe when you launch the launcher it should pop up a box that has that has this rule and you have to click ok. then it runs a check to see if the use has an active account if so right there is bans both accounts as well as the ip from connecting to the server. then it shows an email address to appeal to the bann.
sorry for the harsh measures but i don't think its fair to the rest of us that play by the rules that you bad apples will eventually ruin it for us. this is a new beginning of SWG. This is a new universe, a new community so to speak lets make this one the best ever and quit this stupid stuff we make the game what it is. we are a small network of friends here its not to hard to figure who is trying to cheat the system. just do us all a favor and play by the rules and make this game the best it can be.
any ways my 2 cents sorry to bug in but after reading all the posts i couldn't just sit and read with out adding to it.

multiple accounts,
i have a question.
i had an account long ago with EMU.
when i tried to log into it to create characters in game, my password didnt work, after several tries to reset password, and failure i created new account. i never recieved a response, so am i considered a multiple account user? even at the fault of lack of response to original account?
just curious.

The first one you made was probably so old that it has become "inactive" and only way that it can be used again is by reactivating it. Since you have a new one no need to bother Mods, just enjoy your new account.

It is banned because you already have an active account. You are not allowed to have two accounts. There are only some "special" circumstances in which more than one account can be created from one IP address.

I agree with you Soulreaver about following the rules. The problem is that under the current system only one person from each family can play. I can't create an account for myself and an account for my son, and using your suggestion I would get banned for allowing my son to try to make his own account at home, despite following the rules by having separate accounts and using 2 separate legal sets of Galaxies disks that we purchased. Nor can we technically play from home together on our separate accounts if it the mods get too sticky on this.
His first attempt to create an account did get banned as it came from the same IP address as mine, but he was able to create his account from a different location. But it is his only account and we are both following the rules and so hopefully will not get banned by playing from home together.
I fully understand the need to keep people from cheating by having more than one account, and I'm not sure that there is a better way than what is in place at the moment. I understand that they do not have to let us play at all and I am indeed thankful to the Dev crew for all their work, as well as allowing us to play while work is ongoing.

Hi, I have been trying all afternoon to get hold of somebody to help with an account problem. My boyfriend, who sits next to me and has his own pc and his own swg disks, has been banned instantly, as we share an internet connection. He has not even played the game yet or tried to log in. We thought it would be ok to register on forums, but he has been banned for 'no reason', and the ban will be lifted 'never'. The ban applies to forums and test centre. Please help, as we have done nothing wrong here. We are veteran swg players and would like to see the pre-CU version again.
Thanks for any help and advice.
PS I have emailed twice today, but not heard anything yet.

Multiple accounts aren't permuted, system detects different accounts with same IP and assumes that someone is trying to create a multiple accounts. Its not a perfect system but its necessary.
Since you are sharing the IP address system instantly banned the second account created, even though you aren't braking any rules. Just send an email to community@swgemu.com and explain your situation. One of the moderators will fix it asap.

Ok thanks for the response, but you can understand my frustration and his when I am in game and so is our friend, who was also with us in the early days of swg and my boyfriend has to sit and watch from the sidelines. I appreciate everyone is doing their best and hope someone can get around to fixing it soon.
thank you. :)

How many times do I need to create these sorts of threads?
DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
We have been getting very aggressive in enforcing this; if you find you were banned, don't create new accounts.
Also note: using other people's computers will also trip the detector. I don't know how many times I've got to say this... but BEFORE CREATING NEW ACCOUNTS OR USING OTHER ACCOUNT-HOLDER'S COMPUTERS, EMAIL community@swgemu.com
Just for reference, we get several hundred duplicate users per week. PLEASE. Stop making our lives more difficult than they already are.
Is it alright to use my account on 2 different computers then ? My situation is that I have a desktop and a notebook PC. Can I use both or should I not do that?
Also my other situation is my girlfriend has 2 computers as well and we are on the same network will that affect this dectection system as well?

You shouldn't have any problems and wont be braking any rules.
Also my other situation is my girlfriend has 2 computers as well and we are on the same network will that affect this dectection system as well?
Since you will be on the same network it is probable you will have the same IP address and that one of the accounts (the second one created) will be instantly banned. If that happens just send an email to community@swgwmu.com and explain your situation, mod will fix that and un-ban the second account.

they dont scan the mac address? that would alleviate any problems that are caused by multiple people playing on the same network.

I wonder if diff routers make a difference. My wife and I both play, both can play two characters from our single accounts at same time.
So....
Two peeps.....each with own account.....each playing two toons on one account at same time....from behind one router....
Never an issue.
Linksys cheapy router BTW. LOL
i guess the client installation generates some kind of unique number/adress aka footprint.
so you might install SWG on several machines using the same set of discs and you only can run SWG(Emu) with the account you used the set of discs to register with using 2 toons parallel.
if you got a 2nd set of installation discs you could use these (on some other machine) to create a 2nd account (like it was the habit with original SWG) and log in with 2 more toons.
this is just a suggestion though i didn't check with my 2nd set of discs since i'm fine with 2 toons at the same time.
although this could explain (2nd installatin disc set) why two different persons could be logged in at the same time using the same i-net connection.
just a wild guess though

how often do they check the community mail and how long does it normally take for them to open banned accounts that where created on the same net. Just looking for an estimated time that my Wife and son can log in with me.

Depending on the number of e-mails en queue and the number of staff available to deal with those e-mails, it can take several days. Please be patient and a member of the staff will address your e-mail as soon as possible.

I think this gave me a brain tumor. Please don't capitalize every word, please.
Send an email to community@swgemu.com, give them all the details, user names, etc. Basically what you posted here send in that email, just ease up on the capital letters, and a mod will clear that up in a few days.

@Gilamu
I play my two toons at the same time using the same account, one on desktop PC, the other on wireless laptop, both on the same network/internet connection. No issues have come up in the weeks I've been playing, so I can only tell you from my experience that you wont get banned that way.
Now, if you wanted two toons from two different accounts using the same modem/internet connection, one account might get banned.
If your wireless laptop is connecting to a different modem/internet connection, then there should be no problems in using two accounts.

I am sure I am asking a question that has already been asked and I apologize for it, but I tried to search the forums first.
My wife and I own three copies of SWG. The two of us play and we want to share with a friend.
My problem is that I don't know what discs are from what. We dug them up as they were scattered in different desks, etc., dusted them off and loaded them. As they were likely a jumbled up batch of discs, we simply installed from one set of discs. And to be honest, I am not sure that each set is a working set as they may have scratches etc. I do still have the cases they came in though.
Will one of us get banned somehow? Is there some way for them to see that we loaded from one set?

Hi Chuck,
From what I've read on the forums so far, you can use the same account for both you and your wife at the same time on different PC's, and there will be no problems. If your friend plays using a different internet connection, then there certainly will not be any problems.
Using three different accounts over the same internet connection will cause problems, and someone almost certainly will get banned.
As far as I'm aware, there are no unique 'codes' installed with the game - all details are verified when you log in and they are mapped to the Internet address of your outgoing internet connection. The server will see a problem when two or more log-in accounts originate from the same internet address.
As has been repeated on the last 18 pages here, do not send an email to the devs now, wait until an account as been banned, then email them explaining your situation and they may un-ban you. It takes days (possibly over a week) to get a reply due to them being so busy so I hear, but they will get back to you.

Server is deadlocked atm.
If and when one of your accounts get banned just send an email to community@swgemu.com and ask a mod to unban that account.
